I'm a newb. I had been struggling to lose some weight and frustrated because while I knew I could lose it I was having trouble with motivation. I bought a self-hypnosis for weight loss book/cd and I've been using it - with very dramatic results. I'm blown away by how relaxing and enjoyable it is as well as how quickly and easily I've obtained results -- sticking to exercise program, not one cheat, not ever thinking about fattening foods.

So, I've been reading everything I can get my hands on about the topic of hypnosis. I'm guessing that I might be on that end of the bell curve that goes into trance and accepts suggestions very easily since my experience has been so positive. I've loaned this recording to others and they do not seem to be having this type of experience. I'm an experienced meditator and also I've always been the type of person who gets lost in a daydream and doesn't hear someone trying to get my attention - sometimes to the frustration of others.

I'd like to take a hypnotherapy course although I'm going to start graduate school soon and I'm not sure where I'll find the time. I am interested in making recordings for my personal use and I'm starting to see that this may not be as easy as it looks. Of course I want to tackle every concievable application right now but I'm not going to do that as it seems unwise.

I'm posting this for two reasons, one to glean any thoughts or pointers for a beginner from actual, live practitioners; and also just to share with you how gobsmacked I am at how well this works. I thought it would work for me but I never dreamed it would be so enjoyable, work so quickly and so thoroughly.

Hi, Wodyn.

First, as a teacher of mine used to say, "You'll never 'find' the time. You have to make the time."

Second, the hypnotherapeutic model is that each person is an individual and deserved individual treatment. From your description, it sounds like you found a book/CD which was exactly what you needed. Others who may have had the same goals, need a different approach. Hence, the book/CD that worked so well for you, didn't work for them.

You were luck in that you were in the right place at the right time to find what would work for you. It has nothing to do with a supposed bell curve of people's ease at entering trance and accepting suggestions. Such descriptions are irrelevant because they are always tests of one single approach. Professional hypnotists may have dozens or more approaches so that virtually every client who desires to be hypnotized goes into hypnosis.

I totaly agree with Don's reply, if you are realy interested in, always keep in mind its now or never. Also hypnosis is not only useful for weight loss but also useful to resolve personal problems such as fear of exam, fear of crawd or physical problems such as headache and so on. Instead of buying cds for each perpose, if you know the self-hypnosis, will be great. You can use self hypnosis as vepon for all your problems.

Your website is close to correct; however, a hypnotic trance does not necessarily have anything to do with relaxation. Are you totally relaxed when you can't find your car keys and you are looking straight at them? That is deep trance phenomena -- a negative hallucination. What happens if one has a serious cut and does not know it? The blood just keeps flowing out but does it hurt?

Please read Merlin's FAQ's for an excellent definition.

Be well,
Pood

Well, there is a bell curve, but it reflects the hypnotist's skill, not the hypnotee's hypnotisability.
