Depends what you mean by 'sleep'. If you mean deep night-time sleep then I would say no. You can, however, instruct your mind to bring you out of deep sleep at pre-arranged times into the state just above sleep and perform the exercises. You would not be consciously aware of doing them at the time.

hey, interesting question, unregistered.
Jack, can you please ellaborate on how to 'bring you out of deep sleep at pre-arranged times?" like, i know it is possible for people to consciously know they are dreaming, like the first stage of sleeping? but how can one control when to go into which level?

Similarly to the way that insomnia sufferers can be 'programmed' to wake up at a pre-determined time.

Lucid dreaming is not really conscious dreaming. It is the capability to remember dreams consciously, but not to experience them consciously simply for the reason that you cannot be conscious and dream. And before anyone says, what about daydreams?, you still have to descend into theta state to dream, it's just that the ascent back into consciousness is rapid.

OK, but going back to the original question as asked, the simple answer is NO......Sleep is not hypnosis, and hypnosis is not sleep, in fact the two are imcompatible.
The question was of cause asked by someone who sleeps alone I imagine, otherwise I can see the picture now, as wifey wakes up to hubby doing situps ....

Do you see yourself doing situps in your sleep tonight or is it tomorrow night? I don't know when it will happen, but if you want it enough you'll see your six pack steadily build no matter what you do. It's inevitable.

The main problem lies within the word "sleep". That's not hypnosis. You cannot be awake and asleep at the same time, unless I'm missing something lately... :-)

if you mean that you would like to do sit-ups without thinking about it consciously, and have the time pass faster while you do (so you won't have to "suffer" the workout length of time), then it is possible. However, I wouldn't recommend working out while you're in Hypnosis - it takes away the suggestions of relaxation and lack of muscle stress...

Lucid dreaming is not really conscious dreaming.
Sorry for hijacking, and I never experienced Lucid Dreaming, but from what I know, people experience it as being able to control the dream. But then they must be in a conscious state somehow, or the feeling is only part of the dream, n'est pas?
