View Full Version : One Arrow, one life
I got an email the other day from someone whose moniker is 'One arrow one life'.
Now sometimes things strike me, especially after studying the meta model, and varous language patterns.
What does it say, if anything about this person, for them to have this belief?
How will they tend to translate it into their behavior?
I do wonder about some silly **** sometimes dont I?

Probably from a youngster, they have a competition now as to who can come up with the best nom de plume for their email. One life, one arrow, seems to be an ill thought out one. I would preffer "one life, one bow, one arrow" myself, but then I have a definition in mind which may differ from the original one.....
Hmmm, think I'll steal that for myself (G)......

Skip,
Not so silly. The mottos people go by can become internalized or do
reflect their beliefs. I remember having trained in an Okinawan
martial art. A saying in the school was: "One strike one dead." It
was not a sports oriented school but reflected the very serious
nature of the origins of this fighting style. The idea, of course,
was to make any punch, kick or strike count -- decisively. But,
there were always followups and a flexibility of approach. If the
"one arrow" moniker indicates an inflexibility, it can't adapt for
environmental conditions, anticipated or otherwise. There isn't
enough information, however, to know what the "one arrow" person
had in mind. Perhaps, he/she may have been expressing a desire to
aim their behaviors accurately in the pursuit of what they believe
will be one life lived in excellence.

One Arrow, One Life: Zen, Archery, Enlightenment by Kenneth Kushner. I guess it had an impact on the person in question.
