i get awful joint pains in my fingers, hands, shoulders, knees, ankles and toes and now these areas sometomes, more often than not, go numb and so when i am typing or making tea or anything, it feels so disturbing. the numbness and aching is getting unbareable and the doctor says there is nothing i can really do other than take pain killers or try alternative remedies to help.
well nothing has helped so far but could hypnotherapy help me in accepting that these are just feelings as i am starting to feel like my hands are not my own as they get so numb.
i am 48 and desperate to feel like i can cope with this. it is starting to get me really scared as i feel like my whole body is about to go numb any minute!
thank you very much for reading.

Hello Betty,
You don't say what your doctor says he thinks is the cause of these joint pains but I take it you have been diagnosed with a form of arthritis?
If so, hypnotherapy can do two things for arthritis. The first is pain relief and the second is changing your perception of joint pain. With pain relief your hypnotherapist should be able to give you the facility to 'turn down' the pain, much in the same way you would turn down a radio or TV. You will still have some pain but it will be bearable. With your perception, your hypnotherapist will be able to help you to understand that excessive pain is an over-reaction by your brain to potential damage to your joints and might enable you to control how you feel about that. You will also understand that unless you have a degenerative neural condition you will not go numb all over.
I would also suggest EFT as a self-help means of coping with arthritis. Take a look at www.emofree.com (http://www.emofree.com) and download the manual. Looks pretty silly when you are doing it, but I have personally seen some marvellous effects from persistent use of this therapy in my own practice.
Finally, my own mother takes Chondroitin supplement for arthritis and fish oils, particularly cod and halibut have been useful in some cases of the condition.
Hope that helps.

Hello,
Betty, hypnosis can definately help!
Pain reduction or elimination are possibilities.
Sometime healing of the arthritis itself is possible.
Unfortunately, the healing is a specialty few hypnotists are trained for.

In addition, any food from the sea will be helpfull, as Jack has said, including daily doses of Kelp tablets. I am guessing you are located in the UK, am I right?
