Soon, I'm going to be contacting a local hypnotherapist about having her teach me self-hypnosis. Would it be fine for her to hypnotize me to a deep state that she can anchor for me so that I can fire it off later to use during self-hypnosis? The reason I'm asking, is that she doesn't seem like she may not be a quality hypnotist (I'm in Kauai and my choices are limited). Also, are there any kinds of suggestions that a competent hypnotist will deliver to their subjects while teaching them self-hypnosis to ensure that the suggestions will be acted upon?

Master Debator,
I teach my clients self-hypnosis many ways. I don't know what the
best way for you to learn is. Were it me, I'd trust a quality professional
to make such determinations.

MD,
I want to suggest that you may be over analyzing this and you may be not.
Please consider it IS your sub/unconscious and what may be of value is TRUST.
TRUST that you DO communicate with your 'other than conscious mind'. TRUST that you DO hear and understand and TRUST both your conscious and your unconscious to naturally work together congruently.
TRUST that you won't get it wrong as you can always play more, attempt new processes, ride down the hill on your new bike - fall and get right back up and keep going with the flow of the pull of gravity going down.
TRUST that even though from time to time you see where your are not relaxing and using the powerful connection to your "other than conscious mind (Self) that you are beginning to notice more and more times when you do... become aware that you are TRUSTING yourSELF (unconscious) and that those times of awareness increase day by day, hour by hour and minute by minute.
And what would it feel like to know in your knower that was going to start happening for you in the next 24 hours, and 5 minutes, now!
To Your Best,
Doc

Not really a problem there. It is a gift I give to most of my clients. I absolutely refuse to put inductions on CD's soooo teach self-hypnosis and check it out a few times just to make sure it's working well. :)
In direct answer to your question: yes, it's fine.
However, SG, Doc, and Poodle have added some excellent information you should consider.
Perhaps most important are Doc's comments.
The truth (IMO) is that even the greatest hypnotist in the world only guides you to hypnotize yourself. Trust your hypnotist will guide you and trust that unconscious will follow and achieve wonderful things!

Ask her about what will happen if she won't be able to teach you self-hypnosis.
