Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site and was just wondering how or what kind of suggestions you make to yourself to suppress your hunger? How is it that hynoptherapists manage to do it successfully but when I try to do it myself it doesn't seem to be that effective?
I have heard about blocks and the fact that there might be another issue at work which makes me overeat and not exercise, but in this case it's not true... I jsut want to lose weight.
Thanks
Hi, elpaso.
Here are my answers:
1) Every person is an individual. Suggestions designed for you by a qualified, experienced, certified hypnotherapist are based on an interview with you and may not apply to anyone else.
2) Would you do dentistry on yourself? Probably not (although you could) because you are not trained and you are not an expert in dentistry. So are you a trained expert in hypnosis? If you are, I have no doubt that it would work fine with you. If you are not an expert, of course someone who is will be more effective.
3) I know you are consciously sure that there are no other issues which "make" you overeat and not exercise. But again, are you trained and do you have expertise in this field? Maybe, just maybe, there are things in your unconscious you are not aware of. Isn't that a possibility? A hypnotherapist could help discover any of those, if they exist, and the result is that the pounds would drop away.
Now, here is the good news--hypnotherapy for weight control is very, very, effective. So why not call a hypnotherapist who specializes in weight control and find out more.
I know, you're probably thinking that it will cost you lots of money. Well, when you consider all of the unhappiness you feel about how you look and combine that with the potential medical harm, this is not a cost, but an investment in your health and well-being that will save you tens of thousands of dollars--maybe more--in years to come. This is an investment in your future. I think you're worth it!

There are probably a dozen physical reasons for obesity, and the same number or more of psycological reasons. This being so, why would information on what we do to help ourselves, or even another client be of interest to you? You are uniqe in the eyes of a hypnotherapist, and will be treated as such, at least you will if you find a really good one...
How do you know if you have found a good one? Ask them what experience they have in obesity. Ask how many reasons there are for this problem, and see what answers you get.
As for the question about what we do for ourselves, I use to tell myself I was retaining too much fat in the midsection, and off it came within the next few weeks without any more effort on my part. Now I wonder how many people can say that with honesty? Like I said, we are all unique, and even change over time. Since my retirement, I can no longer lose fat so easily as I once did....

I never give suggestions to suppress hunger.
In my opinion that is the wrong model to work from.
Just because you eat does not mean everything consumed must be processed.
I find it works better to help the mind find the ideal weight.
It's more fun to eat all you want and not gain weight.

Just a thought... I, and the hypnotherapists that work for me see about 1000 clients a year at each of our clinics. We do a LOT of weight loss... and I agree with the other writers whole-heartedly. The other guys that have responded weren't dodging your question -- it really is a complex issue. there's no one way to help you. But there are lots of good ones.
First of all, unless you eat solely to fuel your body and only to fuel your body -- then you eat for emotional reasons. The emotion could simply be the desire for pleasure (taste) or it could be the emotion of fear of loss ("oh man... I never get this kind of cheese cake... I don't want to miss out"). Every bite you take has an emotion attached to it without exception.
Most people are very disconnected from their emotions when it comes to eating. It helps to identify what is going on around you and what you are thinking about so that you can label those emotions.
Any hypnotherapist with a modicum of training can give you ph suggestions that may curb your appetite -- temporarily. But if you don't take care of the underlying emotions then either your subconscious will kick out the suggestions and they won't be permanent (that happens all the time) or problems could "leak out" in other areas of your life.
Definitely seek out a pro. Find out how much education and experience they have before you go. Make sure it's one-on-one and not a group session (less effective) and be ready to discover that there is more to your eating habits, more to your emotions, and more to you than you ever thought.
I wonder which way you'll find hypnotherapy working to surprise and delight you now?

Dear Elpaso,
There are lots of ways to lose weight, that dont involve "not being hungry".
As a mater of fact, my experience inducates that this would likely be a bad idea. See if you arent hungry, then you "stop eating".
Thats ok so far, but it doesnt stop there.
If you dont eat, then your body goes into 'starvation mode' and reduces your metabolism to the minimum, and you have a really tough time losing weight, even though you arent eating. And the weithe you do lose is muscle first, and then your fat reserves. Not what you wanted at all!
Optimum weight loss means that you eat plenty, so you arent hungry, and dont tend to binge. That you drink lots of water, a "ton" more than you do now. And that you exercise so that you keep your metabolism up, AND so that you build muscle, which burns more energy, and you lose fat in the process.
Hypnosis can make all the above changes in your lifestyle easy and even pleasurable, and your total experience on your reducing diet, can be intensely aware and fun, or you can just sort of 'wake up' one day and none of your clothes fit.
You gained all the weight in a trance, you can lose it all in one as well.
Not only that but losing isnt all that you want is it? There is a certasin look you want to see reflected back in the mirror, when you look.
So realize losing weight is just part of what you want, if you lost it all, and still didnt have the "look", what do you suppose you would respond and do?
So think it thru, and then go and see your local hypnotist and really get what you want.

Just another point for you to consider.
The body gives us many important signals. Pain, for example, signals us that we are doing something wrong. People incapable of feeling pain face terrible dangers. They wouldn't know if they were cut and bleeding (unless they saw it). They wouldn't even know if a limb was broken. The results of the inability to feel pain would be disastrous.
Similarly, the body needs the sensation of hunger. It needs that signal to tell your consciousness that it needs replenishment.
So respectfully, I would suggest that feelings of hunger are not the problem and supressing feelings of hunger as you desire could cause far more problems that it might solve. Rather, one of the problems could be your response to sensations of hunger. A person who feels hunger and needs to supply nutrition does not need to respond by eating an entire pizza pie, yet many people do.
Just something to consider....
