Hiya, im trying to learn self hypnosis using William Hewitt's book Hypnosis for Beginners. But during the exercises it tells you to relax, then at other points relax more, but i find myself only able to relax my muscles one, and then i cant relax them more, such as the parts where it tells you to relax individual parts i cant do that. How do i fix this?
Also, would it be possible to change how you see the world using hypnosis? such as you could see your cat as a dog, and when you touched it, it would feel like a dog, such and such.
Thanks
Hi, Ruran.
You've run into one of the major problems with learning self-hypnosis from a book. They tell you to relax, but you have to focus on what you're doing. For most people, such an intense focus is contradicted by the instructions to relax.
Well, there are a couple of things you could try to use to get around this. I have to say "try" because I have no idea if it will work for you.
1) Try a different book. Sometimes the way something is described in one book strikes us differently and is more effective than in another book.
2) Make a recording of what you want to do. Sometimes, when we hear something it has a different effect.
3) Get a video. Sometimes videos are more effective.
If you want to be sure of learning how to do this, instead of wasting all that time and effort, just contact a local hypnotist. He or she can quickly teach you how to do self-hypnosis, then observe you as you are doing it to make sure you are achieving a hypnotic state.
In answer to your last question: Absolutely. However, I know few people who would be capable of doing this via self-hypnosis. They would need a trained professional hypnotizing them.

Dont bother, I have a cat who thinks she's a dog when she is guarding a bone, and a dog who wants to be a cat at feeding time. All without the use of hypnosis.....
Why would anyone take time to learn how to see a cat as a dog, and a dog as a cat I wonder?

Oh that was just a example, my intent wouldent be to change cats into dogs, well maybe, but first i would have to get a cat. And would you happen to know any good, free, self hypnosis websites/ebooks, ect?

Well Ruran, if one of my grandchildren asked me the question you just asked, I would tell them not to waste their time on pipe dreams, so I am telling you the same thing.
It takes proper training, and much practise after that to be able to accomplish what you want, and just reading won't do it. Don told you the truth, but I tell you the simple facts, because when I was a teen, I tried to learn also just from books, and failed as we all to. I tried both hypnosis and ventriloquism, and neither worked for me, so when I could afford it, and the time was right, I paid out my money and took training....
If you happen to be a genious you could prove me wrong, but my money is on you failing because I suspect you are of normal inteligence.....:)

I am a teenager, so i do not have access to a trained professional. Thanks, but i think ill give it a shot myself, i happen to think that its pointless to spend money on a professional when there is a way to acomplish it myself. And the way you see things was not my goal, it was a simple question born from a thought i had.
Ruran, in answer to your question, no, I don't know of any good, free, self-hypnosis ebooks or websites. Besides, as I wrote to you before, any such product may or may not work for you. It depends far more upon you than on the book.
As for free, you can get all sorts of books from your public library for free. Even if they don't have a bunch of books in your local branch, they have something called "interlibrary loan" where they can get all sorts of books for you for free.
You are correct. It is pointless to spend money on a professional when there is a way to accomplish it yourself. Of course, as you've already learned, any particular book may or may not work for you. You might spend many months or even years trying to find something free.
Now, I'm going to assume that you're capable of getting a part-time job. If you spent just one month working part time you'd have more than enough to afford even the most expensive hypnotherapist. So it's not a question of money. It's a question of what you really want. Spend months or longer hoping you will succeed, or go to a professional and be sure of success.
The choice is up to you.

Why do I get this picture in my mind, of a little Mr Digital sitting on my lap broken so his mouth won't move when I throw my voice?
As to the feeling of being a dummy, nobody can make you feel like one except you..:D
I never try to do it, it just happens when I speak the truth if the recipient is so inclined, and it gives me no pleasure to think of my words making anyone feel that way, so I repeat, it can't be done 'cos Terry says so...
