Im doing GSCE examinations for both french and german, and would like to know of some techniques that could help me remember a 2 page "script" which I need to recite from memory and record onto a tape.
Any Suggestions?
Thanks

Sorry but it has been twenty four hours, and has had 10 people look at it.
Someone must be able to help, am I doomed to fail?

Probably, we usually expect students to do some studying and work at understanding a subject rather than look for a way to cheat. If you had spent time understanding the subject, you would retain what you need easily, failure therefor is not a lack of reply from others, but a refusal to study by you...

No I have wwrote the script and am looking for a way to memorise it it IS NOT CHEATING! I have spent 6 weeks writing the script and now have to memorise all 2 pages full, which is all my own work!
I just want some help as my teacher only has the technique of re-reading which doesn't help alot. So I ask you and get acussed of CHEATING!!!!!

If you wrote what it is that you must regurgitate during the exam, and if you also, as I suggested understand the subject, then memorizing is not a problem. You have no need for a word by word repeat, just an explanation of the subject for discussion. Having several grandsons, I know how many of you study these days, mine come to me to use the computer for this purpose, and though I have no problem with using this tool, I do have a problem with what they understand after printing the information they find, and handing it in as homework...
If as you say, you did it all yourself, then indeed you must understand what you wrote, and be able to explain it, or else you suffer from some mental condition that won't allow you to memorise, something I don't somehow believe.

Look, I cant afford to just say things off the top of my head as I only get 4 minutes in which to say it and I have to cover alot of things so the whole class made there own scripts with everything in it. This is what we are supposed to do, now I would like to find out some techniques like mindmapping (which I am already using) To memorise the script, we al have to memorise our scripts and recite them for a tape, Now I asked for help and get accused of cheating and such, I would have thought me being a member of this board for a long time now , that you would respect me enough for me to not explain everything fully, as I assumed you would help me having trust that I am not a cheater, but instead I am accused of cheating and such and have recievied NO help what soever.

Well all the other members of your class seem to expect to do so, and the teacher seems to expect that you can do so, so what's the problem. You are already using some technique to give you an edge you say, yet you need even more to keep ahead of the competitioner......Sorry son, but it just doesn't cut the mustard....I also note that you constantly harp on the word "cheating", yet feel that we should give you an easy way out that others won't have. Now isn't that cheating?

Drawing mind maps is an excellent way to learn and retain material. You could also go through your script writing it out over again, though reduce sentences down to include just key words. Keep refinining your script till you have all your key words in front of you that will allow you to remember your way through the script. Now that you have your key words, use the following method to memorise your way through:
make ridiculous and violent, extraordinary associations between pictures that identify the key words. Link key words together in this manner.
So, lets say some of your key words are as follows:
magician
deception
covert
irony
persuaded
ok, so magician will have some picture associated so start with that
now
deception, what picture could you use for that? Remember this may not be something glaringly obvious when you remember it so try and keep the picturing close to the sounding of the word, maybe think of a really devious looking character full of skunnery and wriggling his fingers with a pair of massive spectacles that spell 'shun' - ok now link the magician to this guy - so, for example the magician is standing there and this guy deceptshun appears by climbing out of the magicians mouth - but make him real big and violent while he is doing it.
Ok, so now you are at deception - now link to covert.... ok for covert... I might think of the vert on a skate ramp (co part will be reminded from context) so deception guy is standing there and boom 100 vert part of hte skate ramp hits him in the face..
ok, then irony.... makes me think of Socrates, so all of a sudden socrates is going down the skate ramp in his toga
then persuaded, so socrates opens up his toga and is wearing a suede suit with enormous suede shoes and a dead cow (persua ded)...
ok so now you get the idea with this method.
Now similar, but better.
On your journey to school pickout certain familiar landmarks, then make ridiculous associations of your key words and those places.. You know the route and as you pass each landmark see the ridiculous, violent, hiddeous association...
so say you pass the london eye first... you see Paul Daniels swinging from one of the carriages. but he is 500 times his normal size and muttering 'you'll like this trick. not alot', in a loud booming deep and scarry tone over and over......
ok so you go to the next place... big ben....(ok, i don't know London too well, but you get the idea) and there is deception (that freaky guy with the speks) with the spire stuck right through his head and he is shouting it was all deception.... he also is extremely enlarged.
now you know the rest.... but with these techniques and enough practice you could remember anything... these are techniques used by memory masters.

Thanks johnny, that is really helpful.
Terry still doesn't understand the situation at hand, I cant beothered explain anymore.
Anyway Ill try and use those methods, but it is a french script which may make it harder, anyway.
Thanks johnny.

Could make it easier.... half the problem with learning foreign languages is learning to remember which words mean which things. Another use of this technique is for example to get your stock pile of foreign language words embedded in your memory.... so, for example, the spanish word for 'cow' is 'vaca' so to remember the translation you could imagine a cow vacuming a field..... now the translation of words is easy, so then you can focus on how to say the sentences.
Best
