Hello

Just wanted to say Hi! I am currently studying hypnotherapy and I have exams coming up in shortly – once I pass I will be legally allowed to practice hypnotherapy (once i get my insurance). I still plan on partaking in varies different courses next year called master classes. I also have an interest in CBT. Part of our course also covers some NLP – which at first I didn’t enjoy but as everything is coming together I can now see the benefits of utilising as part of hypnotherapy.

I have been reading different posts on here and have enjoyed everyone’s contribution. It amazes me that some people (in different forums I have visited) do not understand the professional use of hypnosis – so very happy to have found this site – where everyone here takes it very seriously.

So far I have practised with my friends and with varies case studies – under the assistance of my supervisor.

I guess what scares me is the next step - charging people as with charging people then comes an expectation of confidence and experience! My supervisor advised that I should just start off with things that I am comfortable working with e.g. relaxation, anxiety, stress, stop smoking and as my confidence and experience increases I can then incorporate other aspects into my practice. I plan tosee clients in the evenings / weekends, then eventually work part-time and finally i want to focus on hypnotherapy full-time - which may take me 3-4 years to get there.

Anyway just wanted to say hi!
All the best

Hi there - welcome to the wonderful world of 'trance' and all the fun other stuff related to it!

I suggest you have someone training with you work on those limiting beliefs, so that when it comes time for you to work with others and (god-forbid ...) CHARGE them for your ability, your confidence will match your training.

It takes time to develop and train in the necessary skills, sure - and since they work so well, it makes sense to have them used on yourself during your training, to enable you to be CONGRUENT in what you are taught, without those old barriers that used to stand in your way.

Do you like the way you look if you could make that change and look back at yourself having made that change now!

Know the feeling, I was just like that when I first began practise, and I assure you there is nothing wrong with feeling that you must give value for money, that is just plain ethical.
Advise, offer your services to some group who deal with the poor. Nobody questions the kind and decent person who offers free aid to the under privileged, yet you in turn get practise in the real world without bastarizing your true knowledge and skill. Experience makes a huge difference to how you will feel shortly thereafter. Helping someone to feel confident in applying for a decent job, is not so hard, yet the joy you get from success is beyond any price you might charge the wealthy client you will deal with later...

I jumped in with both feet too. We were trained that we were the BEST! That's the wonderful part of having lots of NLP in your training is that you lose those limiting and negative beliefs and realize your own self-worth and the great changes you can and will make in the lives of those with whom you come in contact.

Get out there and work noowwww!

Just two lessons from the old dawg: Remember - the client's unconscious mind knows more about the "problem" than you ever will. Remember - the client is always right even when totally wrong - learn to work around it and utilize it.

Wishing you all the success in the world!!

Pood :)

Hi

Thank you for all welcome, kind words and advice - I have been busy revising, finishing off an assignment and case studies. I will be thankful when this exam is over! but i am very excited about the future now!

Connie goodluck to you too!

Nigel - I plan to see someone next year to do some work on myself and i do indeed have a few limited decisions I would like to eliminate!

Terry, I am planning on doing some volunteer work as well as charging people to help increase my confidence and gain experience - The problem I am find is that some organisations still think of hypnotherapy as "new age" etc but i will keep phoning organisations and hope to change some people's view on it as i go along!

Poodle - thank you for your two important lessons!

All the best

and I know you will do excellently on your exams.

As for NLP, I had the same thoughts at the beginning - like what am I doing here?????? Absolutely the coolest move I have ever made in my entire life and now NLP is my life. Now I've made it all the way to Trainer. Of course, that does not mean that I don't also love my beloved hypnosis. To me they go together like a wonderful marriage.

May you always continue to learn and never stop! We do live in a magical and wonderful world.

Do well,
Pood
