HI,

I'm very keen to have hypnotherapy for some emotional problems I have.

What I would like to know is, how do I go about finding a 'good' hypnotherapist in the UK? What qualifications should I be looking out for and what should I be wary of?

How many sessions should I expect to have? I'm very worried about being conned or ripped off.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks, Merroney x

hi merroney, briefly word of mouth is the best info you can get...failing that check out yellow pages ... i see adds in the local papers but get the impression that they are fly-by-nights... ask your friends if any of them know of anyone... but your best bet is yellow pages ... but saying that .. i am not in yellow pages... but perhaps i am not the best in the area .. on the other hand...hhhmmm...who believes what they read in an ad.if your near south yorks send me a private message, doug

you might want to check out some CBT therapy for emotional problems also.

Hello Merroney,

Go to this website: www.hypnotherapists.org (http://www.hypnotherapists.org) and you will find the National Council for Hypnotherapy. All the therapists there are properly qualified and the NCH is the foremost organisation in the UK. A therapist cannot get in unless they have done an approved course and a specified number of therapy hours. I belong to it so it must be good!

Try to find someone who has experience in your problem and meet them first before you have any therapy. Most reputable hypnotherapists will meet you to discuss what they do and how they might treat you without charge for 15 or 20 minutes. The important thing is to have confidence in your therapist and you can't usually do that without feeling some rapport. Good luck!

Hi Doug, I am actually in South Yorkshire as it happens!!! Sheffield. Where are you? I take it you're a hypnotherapist? If so, I'm keen to know how much you charge and also to know a bit more about the proceedure etc.

Thanks, Merroney.

Thanks very much everybody. x

PS. As for CBT, I have thought about that, but hear it's even more costly???

CBT involves psychologists/psychiatrists and they charge a lot more and take a lot longer than hypnotherapists! Go to the NCH site and find a therapist in Sth Yorks or Derbyshire.

actually, have a look at the BSCH website, for a first class hypno-therapist in your area.

within the sylabus, the practitioner will have learnt to use CBT with Hypnosis, making is more effective and quicker, cheaper. i myself am a particular fan of the 'hard' methods

if you want to try some 'DIY' CBT have a look at (Ellis / Dryden) REBT
(or Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy).

firstly. and most importantly, it's pragmatic. it's also easy and simple and powerful and it's goal oriented (prescriptive/directive variant).

you can prob. find all you need on the net, teach yourself to see your un - useful beliefs and change them by challenging them (reality testing. v. important) it kind of stresses the importance of being relistic rgarding the facticity (yes it is a real word) of the outside world at the same time as embracing your existential free-choice of meaning ....

can't recomend it enough
