Bad title, good question coming, I promise!

I am hoping for responses for those who practice hypnosis who are not part of the counseling/pschiatric/pshychologist set.

I am beginning to offer hypnosis for basic behaviour modification and life enhancement. I have been practicing hypnosis for a little over a year and am preparing to hand out my shingle for hire. My main focus I hope will be hypnosis for pain and anxiety during birth / hypnobirthing.

I am in Maryland, and the state is picky about how one words ones services so as not to "step on the toes" of the psychiatric community. (Foolish, me thinks, 'tis all semantics - a rose by any other name is still a rose etc.) but hey its the states rules so I will follow.

Sooo PLEASE anyone who has gone before me in setting up a small "practicing of hypnosis" business, please share anythings you found helpful, useful and any pitfalls I may avoid.

Also, do any of you carry insurance? If so what kind and through whom. As in insurance protection as opposed to working with health care insurance. But hey if you know about that too, go ahead share!!

All pointers and info. GRATEFULLY received.

Hi Debi,

Will you do 'hypnobirthing'? That is a controlled, trademarked term.
Just curious.

Anyway, it's usually ok to advertise hypnosis. It's when you say hypnotherapy that it can be a problem.

2 recommendations:
check your state's health department.
Ask Scot Giles of the National Guild of Hypnotists. Scot tracks the laws.

thanks Merlin!!

I will check those sources. I did know that hypno birthing was under those seemingly silly semantic titles. I'll just have to rename it for my purposes.

Thanks for your help.
