I have been studying "personal development" for a couple of years. I have read Hill, Stone, Proctor, Zigglar and more. I have made improvements; I have pretty much defeated anxiety attacks and have grown as a person. A couple of months ago I bought a book on self-hypnosis by Melvin Powers, but haven't really tried the exercises. About 3 weeks ago I bought the Silva Method home course on cd and have done the meditation exercises every day for a couple of weeks. I do believe in the science, but want quicker results. And I find my logical mind fighting with my subjective (subconscious) mind. I want to know, if self-hypnosis is quicker to master and get real results than simply meditating (sometimes I fall into sleep and can't control my thoughts) and while under self-hypnosis do you retain the ability to give yourself affirmations and are they more effective than giving yourself affirmations while in alpha, or on your way to sleep.

I have thought of seeing a pro. hypnotist to give suggestions/programming to help me with the silva technique and/or self-hypnosis. There are a couple of problems I have with that. One, at the present time I am a man of meager means, but big dreams, I have not called the one hypnotist listed in my local phonebook to check his rates, but have heard they can be pretty pricey. Two, if you submit yourself to hypnosis by another person, then they could give undesirable suggestions.

I hope that those of you with experience are willing to give me help and guidance on these issues.

Thanks,
Dave

Watching TV, listening to a radio, or reading does the same thing.
I'd feel safer with the hypnotist myself.

Hi, Dave;

You are traveiing the same road that I trod many years ago. I wish you luck. If you have made some self progress, just keep at it. It takes time. "Rome wasn't built in a day." You didn't pick up self defeating attitudes overnight, either.

In the early 70's I read Peale, Carnage, Ziggler, Maltz, Hill, U.S. Anderson, AND from all of those evolved into Hypnosis and self-hypnosis. I have the Melvin Powers book and others. In 1972 I enrolled in the live SILVA MIND CONTROL week long "seminar." They were very careful to "explain" that their technique was NOT hypnosis, but a rose by any other name will smell the same.

The bottom line of this reply is: MAKE THE MOST OF THE SILVA PROGRAM. From the Silva course I moved on to a Hypnotherapist, and had 72 hour sessions and countless sessions with a custom audio tape at home. The result was "zilch." He explained that the positive post-hypnotic suggestions had been successfully implanted, and it was up to me to allow them to take affect. Subsequent therapies have also be non-productive.

The SILVA MIND CONTROL technique was the ONLY one that produced affects. My problem was I did not RECOGNIZE the 'improvements' at the time. I don't know what changes have been affected in the SILVA program in the last 30 years, but I WOULD SAY... if you already have the program MAKE THE BEST OF IT, and get DEDICATED.

You are probably expecting dramatic results all too soon. Be patient.

Meanwhile, I suggest another author whom I wish I had read 30 years ago: Erich Fromm - "To Have Or To Be" It is an eye-opener!!

Best Wishes,
H. West
