We are frequently asked if there is any scientific proof that hypnosis works. If you look for it, indeed there are thousands of scientific papers.
The latest comes from the on-line Journal of the National Cancer Institute and can be read at
http://jnci.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/djm106
A test with 200 women patients was done at the Ms. Sinai School of Medicine in N.Y.
Before cancer breast "lumpectomy" surgery, some patients received a mere 15 minute hypnosis session with positive imagery while the control group only had empathic listening.
The conclusion:
Patients receiving hypnosis had less pain, needed less anesthesia, and had less nausea, fatigue, discomfort, and emotional upset. Surgery took shorter time and costs were reduced by over $770.00.
