I have a friend who suffers from fibromyalgia, and was wondering how effective hypnosis can be for this? I imagine this has been discussed here before but couldn;t find anything offhand. Any thoughts on this?... or any direction you could steer me would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

For a practitioner of hypnosis, who is not also a medical doctor to attempt to deal with a disease would leave them open to the charge of "Practising Medicine without a license"....Whom do you suppose has such experience?
Let your friend talk to a medical advisor....

surely safe to assume the friend has taken this step already - fibromyalgia not the most everyday self diagnosis...

Bob Brenner that teaches with Jerry Kein at Omni has had great success with fibromyalgia. Bob has found that if it is traced backed to the beginning it can be eliminated. It's what we refer to around here as "drag it out by the roots therapy". It's for darn sure the docs can't do anything with it or for it. Since Bob does it, I'm sure others can too.

Soren, I was not suggesting normal medical intervention. Here in Calgary, we have several doctors who also practise hypnosis, and can legally intervene in such a case.
However, to suggest a specific person would be a waste of time, since it was a third party question, no location given, and I have grave doubts that this was more than an idle question with no action to follow.;)

when someone says "I have a friend", s/he is actually referring to self. Question has been answered that YES hypnosis can eliminate the problem. It is now poster's job to find the hypnotherapist skilled in this which does not necessarily mean a trip to Bob.

Terry,
In many places, hypnosis is a legal adjunct to medical treatments.
A referral is, in effect, a 'prescription'.
A hypnotist is just filling a 'doctor's orders' as a pharmacist or nurse might.
Just need that *referral*

Fibromyalgia can be helped with hypnosis.

As your friend knows fibromyalgia is an umbrella term for many symptoms and effects, so it would be impossible to say whether hypnotherapy would be effective since we do not know what they are and do not know your friend.
However, one of the statutory components of fibromyalgia is pain - its the 'myalgia' bit. Pain is a warning from the nervous system that something is awry, but it can be reduced by hypnotherapeutic techniques that can be used at the time the pain occurs.
With the permission of your friend's medical doctor you could seek out a professional hypnotherapist. Your friend has nothing to lose.

There is a Spanish psychological researcher called Castel that have tested hypnosis with fibromyalgia and had had very good results. I can’t give you more information, because I don’t have it, but if you ask for information in a professor form the University of Coimbra (Portugal) can give you more details. Hope that I helped.
