So I'm just going through really interesting DHE course which was held in Germany a few years ago and led by Lenny Darnell.

As some of you may know, a lot of DHE is derived from shamanic/magic rituals (or at least I got that impression), resulting in many applications of energy work.

Listening to the best on this board and others in my surroundings, it is the best to be HIGHLY suggestible (note that one of my favourite hypnotists Jerry Kein is also strong on this one), taking as much as possible in mind and then deciding if it's appropriate for it to stay there.

So following this philosophy I left all of my skepticism and sometimes not so useful cynicism at the door and entered the world of DHE with wide eyes and open hands.

Being centered, having energy flow through Chakras, being in the moment and similar were quite new terms for me..
Fortunately I read about being in the moment from excellent book written by Eckhart Tolle, The power of now, so the concept kind of hit the home run for me.

However, I was and still am wondering how does all of this fit into the rational and oh so systematized world of NLP.

Energy? Moving people solely with it (without touching!)? Throwing energy balls into people? Having sparks jump between two hands because of intense energy flow?

Well, I try to be as open as possible...

As I understand it, the main meta program behind all of it is still "if it works then we'll use it" and am wondering how do you view on this mixture of different worlds. Rational and mystical.

I'm confused

Also does anyone have any background with Lenny Darnell? From the video I got a strong idea about his amazing charisma and knowledge, but would be glad to hear your impressions.

I view DHE as a "self NLP course". NLP trainers with the Bandler group usually include energy in the course. Energy is universal. I'm a Reiki Master Teacher in two areas of "energy" - traditional Usui which is top down and can be called "healing" by laying on of hands or can be sent through space to another person needing the energy. Kundalini is bottom to top and more for self. I know at NLP Trainer's Training we were sent to an energy workshop -- wonderful from my view. Maybe you remember I was accidently paired with a young man from Japan. I'm sure he was thinking "WHAT AM I DOING HERE WITH THIS OLD AMERICAN FEMALE????". I just said one word to him I knew he would understand "Reiki". He then said "Master/Teacher"? and I nodded my head yes. We were sent to do energy exercises since we both had and understood energy. We closed our eyes and let our palms get about 6 inches apart from each other. Then we moved around a room with our eyes closed using only the "energy" of our palms to find each other without touching. We never missed! Later a group of us formed a circle and everyone ran to the otherside of the circle with eyes closed, using only "energy" to keep us from running into other people. You are, Simon, an energy being. Without the energy, you are dead. I bought an "energy ball" which is a small plastic ball with a battery inside and two strips of metal outside. One hand touches a strip of metal and you hold hands with 2 to 100+ people and the last person touches the other energy strip. It makes a complete circuit and the ball lights up and makes sounds. The energy flows through all the people. It seems that my ball doesn't like to light up for people that don't have much energy and I hardly touch it and it goes crazy. I tried to use it with just me and a paw from the Pood but it didn't work well.

NLP is becoming "unsystemized", at least in Bandler's mind. What used to be steps 1 through 10 are now done in the least amount of steps possible. It is being based more on being acutely aware of words.

An easy book to understand the world of Chakras is "The Chakra Handbook" by Shalila Sharamon and Bodo J. Baginski. If you cannot find it on the net, I'll mail you a copy. It is a fascinating world. Connie loves energy work too although her "other" is in a different area than mine.

Open your mind and let new knowledge in which is really very, very old knowledge and enjoy it! I don't know if I would use the word "rational" to describe NLP. Hugs, Pood

Poodle thank you for this extensive answer.

This all sounds and looks pretty genuine if I suspend my CF but thinking about it, it mostly just seems to be a power of suggestion dressed in this or in the other package.

Now I truly respect your model of the world, and am not even trying to impose my views on you.. the thing that I am doing however is explaining my map/model of world so you could better understand from where do I come.

What do you think?

Open your mind and let new knowledge in which is really very, very old knowledge and enjoy it!

Will do!

I don't know if I would use the word "rational" to describe NLP

For me, in comparison with DHE it is! :) NLP is all psychology, but this seems to get a lot of ideas from "the other side" too.

NLP is NOT psychology, by any means. It would be a wonderful thing if psychologists used NLP for their patients. Psychology operates from the view point that one is broken. In NLP people have all the resources they need. They just may be out of conscious awareness at the time. We don't believe that we are all the same. Each of us is different and unique so we all have our own maps of the world. At the time NLP was born, no one had ever even thought of eye accessing cues until Bandler stumbled upon it. If you are thinking that NLP is therapy, it is NOT -- it's FREEDOM. "Frogs Into Princes, page 166: "It's important for some people to have the illusion that their conscious mind controls their behavior. It's a particularly virulent form of insanity among college professors, psychiatrists and lawyers.

DHE is "more" than NLP. It's a trance experience for sure and installation of very beneficial ideas and states of being. Look at it's name: DESIGN HUMAN ENGINEERING. That says it all. With DHE, levers and buttons can be installed to produce wonderful feelings. You have control over those levers and buttons. With DHE, one can change and manage states of being with ease. Through DHE the sounds (voices) that annoy you are easily changed to cartoon characters so you will laugh instead of being annoyed. How about a happiness button on the end of your nose. Want to be happy? Just touch the end of your nose. It's the installation of wonderful strategies to make your life better and better every day.

I don't know the person you are studying but I do know he has to be Bandler trained and what I am writing is Bandler's methodology. This is why I call it "NLP for self" as it takes the best of NLP and makes it bigger, stronger, more fun and opens the mind up for these changes.

YES! By-pass that CF of yours or as Mr. D wrote "altered state of consciousness" and just let it work it's magicK. I don't know if CD/DVD's would do that but sure could happen. Hugs, Pood

I have just written a world class reply and I somehow managed to delete it all, but the blame is on computer - that rusty old box :)
(the shame of it's loss is even greater because I solved the problem of world poverty but it got lost with that post too..)

It looks that we disagree about where to put NLP, but I know that in reality we agree on this one, because what you are referring to is the academic psychology circles while I'm putting NLP in the psychology basket just because it fits there in my mind (it surely doesn't belong in the electronics basket!).

With me, my common sense urges me to consider NLP being psychology. And I'm quite sure that one might find it being many many times put in the "psychology" category all over the internet and bookstores.

As Bandler put it, Lenny is one of his best students and the thing that I really like is that quite some of the stuff he teaches are given to the conscious mind, but there is a biiiiggg portion of unconscious installation going on too. One just has to love the nested loops.

PS: I'm just past the part where Lenny had led a shamanic ritual
With everything that belongs with it: drums, carpets, dimmed lights, strange substances (lol no, I'm joking with this one) and exotic music.
It was a ...different... experience.
Just a thought.

In PM's, Simon has found an excellent place to catorgorize NLP in Simon's mind and probably about everyone else's mind too. I do love those "YES" moments. ;)
