Hi everyone,
I am searching for a book on eating disorder treatment (in particular anorexia and bullimea) using hypnosis. Has anyone read or used any such book. If so could you give me the name please.
Thank you
Hello, Guest.
What you are discussing are diagnoses of a medical patient. I am a hypnotherapist and I don't treat medical problems. If you, or someone you know, has been diagnosed by a licensed physician as having such problems, you should follow their treatment plan or go to a different doctor.
As a hypnotherapist, I treat each client as a unique individual. If someone comes to me wanting to change behaviors, such as the way they eat (or don't eat), I treat that person as an individual. She or he may have certain issues that would need to be dealt with. Another person--even if they showed the same unwanted behaviors--might have totally different causes for that behavior. I would need to treat each client individually.
When you go to a doctor you are considered to be a machine that is just like all the other human machines out there. If something goes wrong then you fix it the same way you fix every other machine that goes wrong in the same way. That's why, for example, everyone gets the same vaccine for the flu.
With hypnotherapy, however, every person is a unique individual and the therapy for one can be quite different from the therapy for another.
So if we were to recommend a book on treating certain behaviors with hypnosis, the truth is that it might not work for any particular person. And frankly, I wouldn't want to heap more problems on a person by giving them something else to fail at (chances are they've tried to change, and failed, many times).
So respectfully, I'm not going to recommend a book with this information because while it might help, there is also the strong possibility it might harm.
However, I do have great news for you! A qualified, certified, and experienced hypnotherapist--someone who has gone through a lot of training and not just read one book--can help a person with eating behaviors very quickly and for a very reasonable price.
Would you read about on how to pull a tooth and then try to pull out your own aching tooth or the tooth of another person? I don't think so. The mind is far more complex than a tooth, and you're thinking that by reading "a book" you'll be able to do something far more complex than pulling a tooth? I guess that really doesn't make much sense.

I have not reason to believe that such a book as your request exists. Medical reports regarding these problems do of course exist, and may well be published in medical journals... This board however, is visited by professional practitioners of hypnosis, and by those interested in either learning, or using this art. As you have been informed, no ethical practitioner would attempt to assist you in interfering with a medical problem, simply because we are not trained in that area, and a tenet of our cread is, "Do no harm"........To which, most of us would add, "Don't help others to do harm"....Terry
