is falling in love a form of hypnosis?

No, it is a strong emotional state with trance like aspects. Normal reasoning
diminishes as does critical thinking, but it isn't hypnosis.

Well, they asked if it was a form of hypnosis, so in certain ways I personally believe that it is. Think about it, you have a good time with someone then later on you focus on all the good things about them and in a way you convince yourself that you're in love based on the symbols/rules/whatever that you have.

The emotional state is brought upon by the way you think about the person based on those rules, not only that but you also often times build a reality filter so whenever you think/see/talk to that person you experience them through that same filter. (she's even cute when she's belching!)

Sounds like it has quite a few hypnotic properties to me..

(granted, because of the format of the question and since love can be different for everyone, this argument could go back and forth over and over)

It *can* be.
If the critical factor is bypassed, and often it will be, then that aspect is hypnosis.

Marriage is a real eye opener ;-)
