Do you want training nearby, or are you willing to travel globally?

Not to hijack this thread, but I am in a similar situation, and thought it better to post in this thread, rather than clutter up the board with posts like this.
I just learned about hypnosis recently, and am looking to use it for several purposes, which I suppose could roughly be described as altering my identity. The list of thing I want to do is as follows:
1. Have more self-discipline and focus.
I have limitless ambition, but seem to be unable to force myself to do some of the things that are required to complete the goals I wish to complete. For example, I am trying to look for a new job, but I never seem to get around to sending in those resumes. Part of this I know is excuse making on my part. "Oh, I have to get to bed tonight, so I'll do it tomorrow," or "I need someone else to look over my resume." What I would really like to have, is the ability to force myself to do the things I need to do when I need to do them with out even thinking aout them; or perhaps more appropriately, the inability to find excuses or other things to make myself too 'busy' to work on what is most important.
2. I would like the ability to rapidly change any limiting beliefs I have about myself.
Along the same vein, I often times struggle with self-authorization, and limit myself to a low status positition in life. I want to be able to unconciously identify myself as a high status individual who deserves the rewards of the goals he has set for himself.
There are others, but those are the two major areas that I want to gain control of in my life. I live in the city of Chicago in the US, and while I'm eventually looking to be able to hypnotize myself, I am more than willing to pay someone to teach me and help me with these initial goals. I should mention that I am unable to travel outside of the city.
If anyone can recommend any ways to get started, I would greatly appreciate it.

Reads as if what you really want is NLP. There is a lady near Chicago that teaches NLP and hypnotherapy and also does a lot of work with individual clients. Her name is Barbara Stepp and just a search on her name will find her. She is a waay cool person in my opinion.

I don't suppose you can compare/contrast the two? I wondering what the comparative strengths/shortcomings are of both.

Dr. Matt has great definitions of both on his website. You know, the nice person that sponsors this Forum. Merlin has done an excellent FAQ on hypnosis and has requested I do the same for NLP which I will do eventually. You are very welcome.

I had hoped you might take the hint.
Sorry, my fault.
Forgive my ignorance?
Where on the planet are you?

Yes, click on Merlin's name. She has a lovely FAQ with some good material and when you want more, just let us know as there is NEVER A SHORTAGE OF GREAT READING MATERIAL AROUND HERE!
London should be great. Many wonderful people train there. You may have noticed our lovely Merlin does teach on occasion. Exactly where? I don't know but I do know she would be GREAT!!!! She would be one of my first choices for sure.

Meathead,
If you are really are serious about learning hypnosis and practicing hypno therapy then I really suggest... they are an intensive one year program, but you learn so much.
You learn how to hypnotize which is easy and then you learn therapy styles and different approaches. The school really does a good job of preparing you to open your own hypno therapy practice.

hi meat head i could suggest two courses in london i have looked at all of the courses in london and in my oppinion the two bellow are the best. when i decide to learn hypnosis looked at as many courses as i could find and checked if they had any recomened reading lists then i bourght some books and atarted learning the theory once then bought some videos and watched them repeatedly and then decided to take some one day taster course and i whent to two hypnotists to learn self hypnosis. after this i took a seven day course and im still studying if your interested in learning i would suggest you do something similar to me because its good to go on courses when you have a little theory behind you.
... this is a cbt/ hypnosis course that is very evidenced based but if you decide to take this course i would strongly suggest reading a through books first. two books that are very good and recomended on the course are hypnosis for dummies and Hartland's Medical and Dental Hypnosis both the later being an excelent book about hypnosis and a must read for all hypnotherapists (thats my opinion)
... probably one of the best courses in the uk (my opinion) they have just started an online course wich is every good and probable the best value for money traing course you will find I highly recomend this if you whant to learn language patterns and ericksonian style techniques. this is also a cbt based course but completly different from the one above.
i would agree that most of the books on the link above but would recomend you read the reviews on amazon before buying any.
i would recomend for begginers
HYPNOTHERAPY by Dave Elman
hypnosis for dummies
Hartland's Medical and Dental Hypnosis
Training Trances (Overdurf & Silverthorn)
Monster's & Magical Sticks
Self-Hypnosis: The Complete Manual for Health and Self-Change [Second Edition] by Dr. Brian M. Alman and Dr. Peter Lambrou

of those books are in "our" suggested reading material -- Hypnotherapy, Training Trances and Monsters and Magical Sticks ---there's no such thing as hypnosis. Training Trances is a nice blend of some Ericksonian hypnosis with NLP and it's a fun read IMO and would be good for any beginner.
