Hi again everyone.

I haven't posted in a while, but I've been pretty busy. You might recall that I was looking for information to help my wife and some others in my family.

I was able to find a competent hypnotherapist to help my wife about 2 hours away. She is doing much better now.

In the process, I invested enough time in researching that I did decide to complete one of the many training courses and get certified, which I did. I was also very impressed with 5-PATH, and with Cal Banyon's instruction, so I am in the process of getting 5-PATH certified. In the mean time, I have rented office space and am getting ready to start advertising.

There are a couple of golf courses within 15 miles of here, and I thought that would be a good target audience to get started with.

Has anyone had good success with helping a golfer improve their mental game? I'm sure that simple relaxation and focus suggestions would be of some benefit, but can anyone suggest a source for a more "targeted" patter?

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,
Jeff Johnson, C.Ht.

Every person is an individual. "Targeted" suggestions are a great idea, but except for relaxation, concentration, general visualization of the needed skills, I don't think it is possible to be targeted unless you have a target--and each person will have their own, unique target to hit.

I think your idea of hypnosis to improve the golf game is great! But one person's problem is not going to be the same as that of another. How do you find out what their problem is? Ask them. Then work to find the source of the problems. Is it merely bad stance and follow-through? Or is it related to old fear-of-success patterns resulting from childhood imprinting?

So I would respectfully suggest that you need to do a great pre-talk interview to find the target. You also need to know how to approach the client (permissive, assertive, metaphoric, etc.). However, you also need need to know sports physiology in general and golf physiology or "mechanics" specifically. I would suggest such books as Sport Psychology from Theory to Practice by Anshel, Super Golf with Self-Hypnosis by Heise, Self-Hypnosis: The Key to Athletic Success*by Kappas, Sport Hypnosis*by Liggett, Hypnosport by Cunningham, Winning the Mind Game : Using Hypnosis in Sport Psychology by Edgette and Rowan, Unlimited Sports Success : The Power of Hypnosis by Mycoe, and get the videos on Sports Enhancement by Don Mottin.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe Tigger Woods has been pretty open about using hypnosis for golf.

Congratulations!

Cal is IMO one of the better teachers.
>I'm sure that simple relaxation and focus suggestions would be of some benefit,

yes indeed.

Try starting with the sports hypnosis tape that Cal sells

Hello J4A,

Get hold of a copy of a copy of "The Inner Game of Golf" by W.Timothy Gallwey.
It is a good starting pount if you are interested in performance enchancement.

Thank you all for your suggestions ;) , I'll look into getting some of the books mentioned, and I was looking Jerry Kien's "Sports Improvement" dvd. I've gotten a few of Jerry's courses already, and I like his teaching style as well.

Thanks again, and I'm looking forward to participating in some of the interesting discussions here as I develop a broader base of knowledge.

Cal sells Jerry's training tapes/DVDs.

Jerry is also the major influence in Cal's methods which he teaches.

You'll also find Jerry's name on the book Cal wrote.
