Hello,

I am interested in which NLP patterns and techniques can be applied by the lay person to help be in control of their own brain? What resources/books would you recommend? One I believe is: Using your brain for a change

By this, I mean changing one's own behaviours, responses, feelings and beliefs.

For example, could I use the "swish pattern" on myself and get effective results as a layman?

And what about techniques like eye movement intergration? Is it possible to self administer these? Or is it always more effective to work with a practitioner?

exist for a reason. What is your definition of a "layman"? You obviously did not have the best luck with CD's and NLP products passed you by.

Are you trying to find a way NOT to go to rid yourself of your problem as you want to do it yourself?

NLP is NOT about THERAPY and some TECHNIQUES. It is a much larger world than you can possibly imagaine. It's about freedom and how to be, have or do whatever you want in life. :eek:

No, not at all. My appointment with the practitioner is for certain. I don't intend on trying to fix myself at all. I know I need someone skilled to help me with that issue.

I am looking towards the future: using NLP to develop and improve myself. I'm always striving to improve..

I would suggest a great NLP Training. Reading the books is wonderful. Having someone install that knowledge into your unconscious and watch you do everything consciously is invaluable.

You will have more than you ever believed possible.

Many, many aspects of NLP relate to submodalities and that is pretty much difficult to change in oneself. How do you know exactly what your unconscious mind is thinking and how do you change aspects of that and then how do you test and future pace? Even though NLP has no "official" induction it still produces trance. The trance state may be light or may be very, very deep depending on how much association-disassociation has been going on. We use nested loops to elicit and anchor states and you have no idea it has happened.

There have been numerous practitioners that have tried to use one technique for a different problem and then they complain it doesn't work. It was not designed for something different.

You specifically mentioned the Swish Pattern. Without training how could you be sure that the Swish Pattern is really what you really need? Then, how would you determine what you needed in the Swish Pattern?

I just thought that training was geared towards being a pracitioner and inducing change in others. Whereas I am interested in developing myself to my fullest potential and gaining mastery over my mind. I appreciate that some things cannot be changed by yourself- e.g. how would I determine my own eye accessing cues

Lots of people go to training because it is fun, they learn a whole lot about themselves and others, get all kinds of limiting and negative beliefs wiped out and leave pretty much transformed. Out of my original class of maybe 25-26, maybe 6 or 7 are working with it professionally and I am the only one that apparently wanted to teach it so far. It's for anyone who wants a better and happier life and is not restricted to any profession in most countries. It comes down to how much happiness can you stand in your life!! I'm greedy. I like lots and lots and lots more. :D

Some trainings are directed towards teaching NLP as you indicated.

Other trainings are focused on using NLP building models of excellence for living.
