Reuter's posted an interesting article today, 9/9/04 at

http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=healthNews&storyID=6194603

It quotes a Dr Christina Liossi of the University of Wales saying there is medical evidence that hypnosis helps to relieve the depression, nausea, vomiting and pain suffered by cancer patients.

She says there are "suggestions" that hypnosis could increase survival in patients with cancer, but there is not enough evidence to state that as a fact.

She adds, "We know that hypnosis can modify the immune system."

I think nothing in that article is new, we know we can relieve symptoms, and strengthen the client against ill effects, and we know we can't claim a "cure" if the cancer goes into remission, so nothing new except the acceptance of some of the medical community that hypnosis has value......Exactly what I wrote yesterday in reply to a query on cancer on another board. While I agree that there is nothing new in the article to US, having reports from respected doctors in universities verifying what we have said gives added support to the effectiveness of hypnotherapy in the minds of laypeople.

Agreed Don, but since such statements were made on Television, by a doctor from a prestigious University hosital, "Johns Hopkins" to be exact, back in 1958 or 9, and no progress has been made since, I doubt that it will have extraordinary results, though one can hope I suppose.

An enormous number of people alive today were not alive 40 years ago, and many would think that modern research supercedes research from back then.
