 Hello, I've stumbled upon this site in my desperate search for help. For the past 4 months I have been severly depressed triggered by a specific hurtful incident involving many of my relationships. I can not get past the pain. Everything went horribly wrong and I have been in pain ever since. I think about this incident and the trouble its caused constantly!! Every single waking minute for the past 4 months. It has consumed me to the point where I can't be a good wife and mother. My child needs the happy fun mommy she had before this happened. But I've been a shell...no joy, no peace. I have terible guilt tho what happened was not my fault but I contributed to it and should have seen it coming. It has caused so many problems. I have also extremely angry all the time because this could have been so easily avoided with a little common sense. I've been looking into various techniques to help me get thru this such as EFT. I studied EFT and worked hard on it on myself but have had NO relief. I've also tried Zensight and ZSpot and Be Set Free Fast....nothing helped me. I can't let go of this pain and anger. Its hard to put behind me when I am constantly confronted with the people who were wronged by this action. I also tried seeing a traditional psychiatrist who I still see but we get no where. Part of the problem for me is that I don't know if I beleive that you can alter your thinking. I watched a sample of a NLP session where a man who suffered with anger was cured in a matter of minutes. How can that be?? Surely the emotions will return about an hour later. That's how I feel about EFT, my anger subsides while I tap but within minutes its back stronger and I'll filled with pain again. Do you have any advice on where I can go? Is hypnosis the answer? I don't know if I can be hypnotized because I am so stubborn. I want this problem to go away but it happened and I hate it. I feel so uncomfortable around the people who were hurt and feel so guilty as if I now just have to be a puppet to them because something I semi caused impacted them. I feel all of my pride was taken from me and I am filled with regret and hoplessness. I am here because I will try anything. I looked into that undergroundhypnosis site but that has to be a scam. Is it possible for me to be hypnotized into changing the way I perceive this issue so it isn't killing me? If so will that last or will I leave the session, and feel the same pain when I have to face the people involved? Does this work or not really? I need more than what I get from my psychiatrist. Please help. Please help me find my way out of this darkeness. I need some real advice? What should I do? Is there hope?

The simple answer is of course, yes. However, much depends on the country you live in, and the regulations that govern therapy there. You tell us you are under the care of a Psychiatrist, so in the Americas you would find that no ethical practitioner would be willing to take you as a client. We do not take clients who are patients of doctors, as a psychiatrist is, and in some cases you will find nobody will take you if you are being treated by a psychologist, even though many of those who practise Hypnosis are also psychologists. However, Hypnosis can be of help in the problem you ask about, and I can assure you that you are indeed hypnotisable if that is what you want, and if you find a qualified practitioner. Anyone telling you they find you impossible to hypnotise FOR ANY REASON, are wrong, and blaiming you for their lack of skill.
I suggest you consult the person you are at present dealing with, and ask about a change of theraputic treatment since you are not happy with your progress to date. They may agree, and send you to someone they know, who may or may not be any good. Trust results, not the name or apparent skills. You are correct by the way, this board is the only one that is constantly manned by ethical, and skilled practitioners, or in my case, a retired one who practised for twenty years, and retired to indulge in research because it is fun and valuable to my community. However, please understand, we can be of no help if you don't act to help yourself. There is no such thing as online therapy, or online training for those of us who know what our art is all about. Local help is all that has value, use it.
Hello, Heal.
My heart goes out to you! Many of us are familiar with the pain and suffering you are going through. I would like you to know that, indeed, there is help. This help will not take years or even months, but can be achieved within just a few weeks with the help of hypnotherapy.
Terry's comment to you is spot on. If you can concentrate enough to type a post to this forum, you can be hypnotized. Period. Full stop. Not all hypnotic inductions work for everyone. That's why professional hypnotherapists are capable of using different ones based on the needs of the client.
I don't know who your psychiatrist is or the extent of their practice. However, in many cases today, psychiatry is focused on dispensing psychoactive drugs. This helps many tens of thousands of people who need it. But many psychiatric patients also need to deeply discuss their problems in order to get through them. In my experience, many psychiatric patients get this by going to a psychologist as well as a psychiatrist as many psychiatrists no longer spend their time on that aspect of the field.
For some people with minor problems do-it-yourself can be the answer. But when do-it-yourself doesn't work there is a reason. Many people who try do-it-yourself blame the technology for the failure. Usually, that's not where the problem is. The difficulty is that we are all subjective and we may think our problems are in one area when they are actually somewhere else. For example, you wrote that there was a "specific hurtful incident" that is causing your pain. That may be true...or it may be that there are other situations that merely reached a climax with this incident. You could get rid of the results of the incident but the causes would still be there and would eventually manifest in another way.
To resolve this type of problem, we need objective professionals. That's why doctors have their family treated by other doctors, dentists have their teeth treated by other dentists, and psychologists get treated by other psychologists.
So I would respectfully suggest that rather than do-it-yourself, you may be able to get help with a trained and experienced hypnotherapist. Again, as Terry pointed out, if you're being treated by a psychiatrist you would need to get a referral. Another way to do this would be to find a hypnotherapist you like and ask if they have a referral form they can give to their psychiatrist.
I am absolutely NOT suggesting in any way that you should quit your psychiatrist. I would point out, however, that the psychiatrist is your employee. You (or your insurance company) pay them. If you hired a gardner and said, "I'd like to plant some roses" and the gardner refused, what would you do? My guess is that you'd find another gardner. If your psychiatrist refuses to allow the referral, you could contact another psychiatrist who would be more open to this.
By the same token, your hypnotherapist should work WITH the psychiatrist. They are not in opposition or competition--they should be complementary. And I repeat, under no circumstances should you stop your care with your psychiatrist until your psychiatrist and you agree that it is time to change that care.

How long do you think it has to take to learn a new behaviour?

Stubborn makes it easier :)

I live in Long Island NY. USA How do I find a hypnotherapist that can work with me on my kind of problem? Also does hypnosis last? Meaning once I am hypnotized will I have a new perspective on my situation and will it last or will I fall apart again? I do need one on one help for this. I want someone who is skilled and gifted in this. I am ready to get started as soon as possible.

"I live in Long Island". Why not a look in the phone book. I happen to know a great hypnotist in LI. If you can't find the person either by internet or phone book, then you really are not trying very hard.
