Hi im new and i would like to learn ALOT about hypnosis, not the method to induce someone to trance, but the science behind it and everything. I would like to start from the beginning. And on the subject of hypnosis, these questions have been making me think. I read alot of threads before i registered here and some of the threads were about hallucinations. Im quite interested in hallucinations also because i would like to know how the mind produces these. I have never experienced a hallucination before and I been wondering how to induce them but not by means of drugs, but methods. And so i came across hypnosis.
I read a thread a while ago and in that thread is about Imaginary Friends.
Well, that user who posted the thread made me wonder.
If you use hypnosis to see people that aren't there, could all the 5 senses be involved?
And if like you say "you will see Michael Jackson" (terrible example), what would you see him as? Naked? (ew) or with clothes? And if with clothes then what kind? Does your mind just randomly design a certain clothing for him? Or does the hypnosis therapist have to be tell you what clothing he is wearing?
Oh and, if you hallucinate a imaginary friend, can they hurt you if they bump into you on accident?
Sorry if im asking too much questions, but i would really like to learn. Thanks.
Hi, Kev, and welcome!
I find it odd that you think you've never experienced a hallucination. Everyone experiences them!
There are two types of hallucinations. The first we call a "negative hallucination." That's where you don't see something that's right there in front of you. Maybe your keys or perhaps a toothbrush. You look and look and then you say, "Doh! It was there all the time."
The second type is a "positive hallucination" where you see (or experience) something that isn't there. Perhaps you've heard someone call your name only nobody did. Or maybe you saw a friend in a crowd, but he was never there. Or maybe you remember a scene in a book or movie, but when you check (because nobody else remembers it) you find it isn't there.
Now, for your questions.
One of more senses can be involved
You would see him as your unconscious wants you to see him
If they're imaginary, they can't hurt you.
Keep up the interest!

Wow thats really interesting!
I got another question for a neg. hallucination.
Lets say, there is a book and behind that book is a pencil. What if u have a neg. hallucination about the book, and you don't see it, does that mean you can see through the book and see the pencil?

Depends if you knew there is a pencil behind the book; if you do, then you'll have a pos hallucination(pencil) inside a neg hallucination(book) otherwise you would just not see a book and unconsciously guess what would be behind that book and see that.
I remember one time, I had a friend hallucinate a tennis ball floating up and down over my hand. She afterwards gently mentioned that I wasn't looking at the ball right, because to add to the reality I was moving my eyes with my suggestions, I guess I wasn't looking at the right spot/path. But notice how her comment implies that the ball was almost real, carrying the expectation that other should see it?

The question you asked Don is one he can't answer, because what he doesn't know is that I saw that question coming, so while you weren't looking I snook in and stole the pencil. It is no longer behind that book you can;t see.
Now before you cry foul, let me remind you, although it is your book and your pencil, there is a price to pay for coming here with questions, and a lost, new, red pencil is a small price to pay for all the skills we have. Besides, you didn;t even have the good grace to sharpen it first, so I will put it back later when you stop asking questions...:D
