Hi there,

I'm a student working on a project about self-help cd/audiotapes which contains hypnotic music to treat sleeping problems such as insomnia, and i'd like to ask if anyone has tried this kind of products before? what do u think about these products and do u know where can i gather the sales figures of these products? I have been trying very hard to look for these data from journals and databases but simply couldnt find any coz this type of product really has a niche market.

thanks a lot!!

Karen,

"Hypnotic music" would be a hard thing to define, though I'm sure that
marketers use it to their advantage to sell the products you speak of.
Strictly speaking, music, in and of itself, isn't hypnotic though it can be
used as a mode of trance induction and elicitation of certain brain states.
I've never used music for any purpose with my clients. Moms have
been using music to treat sleeping problems for years with lullabys.
You may want to check with music industry trade associations to see
if they can provide you with any of the sales information that you seek.

Thanks a lot for your reply!

I think i have made a mistake in saying that those products contain 'hypnotic music', instead they are said to be some audio files containing 'Eriksonian Hypnosis'. So do professionals seldom use these kind of cd/audiotapes for the treatment of clients in general?

Karen,

I never use generic CDs/tapes. Others here may want to respond as to whether they do so.

A good hypnotist doesn't rely on tapes/CDs.
But such products are very profitable.
