Can any of you offer some advice on finding a reputable hypnotherapist? I live in CT. I found one guy named David Weltman of "The Breakthrough Center" Anyone ever heard of him. He's not too far from me. Thanks.

Can any of you offer some advice on finding a reputable hypnotherapist? Thanks. The rest of your post has no significance, since the question is answerable to cover all who are wondering the same thing.
1. Make a phone call to the person of interest.
2. Ask for pertinent information about them that would be important in
making them your choice as a therapist! Do not probe, just let them
tell you.
3. Ask if they have any experience with your particullar problem. Listen...
Say thank you, and hang up until you have give thought to your
decission.
From this you will decide if that person is one you can relate to, know the training they have received, and the experience they have in practise, and if they can truly help you. Voice, intonation, hesitation etc, all will help you in your decission. We have no idea who is best for you regardless of if we know that person or not.

“The rest of your post has no significance”
Terry,
Thanks for your response, although I’m not really sure what to think of it. No significance to whom? Are there no standards by which to judge hypnotherapists? For example, I could ask a surgeon if so and so is a “good” surgeon and he could answer “yes” or “no”. He might say “no” if the guy in question had left a pair of scissors inside someone. I doubt he’d tell me to call him, and “feel” him out to determine if he could properly perform surgery on me. Is hypnotherapy this ambiguous? Answers like yours tend to frighten me when it comes to hypnotherapy.
“We have no idea who is best for you regardless of if we know that person or not.”
I don’t intend to come across as rude, but is there no objective way to determine between a “good” hypnotherapist and a “bad” one?
I'm not Terry, but I can tell you that these forums are not set up to review hypnotherapists. Further, comments that are negative could end up in lawsuits against the forum. We're just not into that.
If you want referrals to your area, please contact either the American Board of Hypnotherapy or the National Guild of Hypnotists. Both are set up to recommend professionals in your area.

Hypno, Dons post is quite correct, but was not the reason why I replied to you as I did. What I told you, (and it is no fault of mine if you didn;t understand), was how to find "yourself" a good therapist, simply because you are to be the client, and must feel comfortable with whom you choose.
Now I might know a good therapist, one whom I respect, but would never be so silly as to recomment him to a poster, since I don;t know the poster, and I don;t know their problem, and I don't know how my friend and that poster would gel, so I would suggest they speak to him and decide for themselves as to if they felt he or she was the right therapist for their needs, based on that personal contact. This, even though I know and respect that person.
If you choose to continue to attend this board, you will find that I have definite opinions, based on years of experience, and will use my knowledge to be helpful. On the other hand, I do expect the recipient to read with care before telling me they are "not sure how to take it". I always give advise in the best possible way according to my lights, and I only kick butt if the post seems too rediculous to be treated with serious intent. Yours was taken seriously, so reread until you understand it.
You ask about "standards", but standards are not something that will stand up to therapy for hundreds of different problems by one person. Nobody is so good as to be completely competent in every area of therapy, even after many years of practise, any more than a doctor is competent to diagnose every illness that exists, and do so in excellent manner every time. Therefore, it is up to you to find a therapist whom you feel comfortable with as I said previously.
Now is that too hard to understand and accept? If so, please accept the simple answer instead, "No I don't know what you wish to know". I think my first reply was much more helpfull, what do you think?:)

I checked their website as to what they teach. It looks good to me. I would give them a call and talk to all three of them. Find out which one you feel more comfortable being with. If none, then find more. They are members of appropriate Guilds. Not knowing them I cannot say more. It's your money and your decision so think a little on Terry's advice. Okay? Wishing you the best, Pood

of what I presume to be an elderly lady that called this aftenoon about my hypnosis services. I politely asked her in what she was interested. Answer: EVERYTHING YOU DO! HOW MUCH? I informed her that different things have different prices as more sessions cost less than one or two. She got mad and hung up. I can't help but laugh as I'm sure she's not into HypnoBirthing. People -- gotta love 'em. Still laughing. Pood
