View Full Version : Very Sensitive to Noise: Can Hypnosis Help?

Hi,

I'm wondering if hypnosis/hypnotherapy can be used for my issue?

I am extremely sensitive to sound. This isn't a physical issue; I don't experience pain or anything like that. Instead, I find that the sounds of my neighbors drives me crazy.

I live in an apartment and the regular bumps, bangs, and door slams that I hear distract and annoy me. I have to keep a loud fan running at all times, and I get angry because of the noise.

Normally, I'd say that maybe I have loud neighbors, but this has been an issue for me for as long as I can remember (no matter where I've lived) and it seems to be getting worse.

Is there any way that hypnosis/hypnotherapy may be able to resolve this problem?

Thanks is advance for any/all replies.

Bosley,

You asked...

The answer is...
YES

The answer is...
YES

You're welcome (as you said thanks in advance for any/all replies).

To go any further... contact a local hypnotist in your area that you feel comfortable with and let them interview and take a history so they can better answer your inquiry in more depth.

To Your Best,
Doc Houston

just change the yucky sounds to pleasant sounds. Not hard.

Bosley, I would suggest you consider a consultation with a local to learn why you feel as you do. The fact that you need noise to drown out noise does indeed suggest that there is no physical problem, and points in the direction of a psycological one...Certainly it doesn't suggest a sensitivity to noise..

It's funny but my dog barks a lot and this annoys the neighbours. I never hear him unless his bark has a particular pitch suggesting that it has all become real and not just an exercise to persuade me to go out 'hunting'.

You can be helped either by a psychologist - if you want to spend six months doing it - or by an hypnotherapist in around a couple of sessions. Just find a good one and enjoy all of those noises.

Good thing you don't live here. Dogs are not allowed to bark after 10pm until 6am. Third complaint from neighbor and you are in court paying a hefty fine or they take your dog away from you. We have what is termed a "doglog" which records the exact time of the barking and length of the barking. It's submitted to the Court as proof of the dog barking. Thankfully the old Pood just likes to bark in the house or in the car.

Well girl, I gotta tell you, any court would have a hard time from me is such flimsy evidence was presented. My daughter has a red setter, a lovely dog, who rarely barks except in greeting, but on one occassion when she resided next door to me, she got a call from a very irate neighbour, screaming for her to stop her dog barking. My daughter looked down at her dog sleeping peacfully at her feet, and informed the neighbour she had better find another scape goat for her anger, as she was picking on the wrong dog.....:)
Guess it must have been that damn poodle next door eh.:D

Terry, your post reminds me of a story. I was traveling and I was ill (strep throat), I couldn't talk at all and I felt so lousy I spent the entire evening dozing on and off in bed (at a hotel). My hubby was watching an NBA playoff game on TV, quietly, so as not to disturb me.

We got a phone call from the management that our loud, raucous partying was disturbing other guests.

Poodle,

I see that you live in Wyoming - isn't that the least populated state in the nation? Maybe I should move there and my "noise" problem would resolve itself? :D

If anyone tried to take my dog away from me they would first have to prove that it was my dog's voice.

Least populated ONLY IF you live out of town. The ranch is peaceful and quiet in the summer and the lake home is usually quiet except for a coyote or two and the deer like to tromp around the wood decks begging for food. Then there's the darn woodpeckers drilling into the house. The only things that are quiet are the rabbits, the lizard and the chipmunks. The wind usually blows 50 to 75 MPH and that makes a lot of noise too. I don't know where "quiet" is found. Maybe the quietest place I've ever lived was a very well built apartment complex near Duke University. I'm too old to worry about quiet now so I just accept what is and go on peacefully in my own mind. Works for me! Things can only bother me if I let them and I choose not to let them.

This Poodle doesn't get out more than one yip at night and if that yip happens he gets into BIG PEOPLE TROUBLE.

Gotta get to the hospital and grocery store if I can get down the street.

I think this is really the bottom line and I'd like to get to that space in my head, too. But it seems that all of the bangs, bumps, and slams distract me and also make it hard for me to fall asleep at night.

The funny thing is that I live on a lake and during the summer months there are hundreds of frogs along the shoreline quacking away all night...it doesn't bother me at all. I can tolerate the sounds of nature much more easily than I tolerate the inconsiderate sounds of people.

Maybe I'll make that appointment with the hypnotherapist after all...

I got that place in my mind from NLP training. It's amazing what a good training can do. You like nature sounds, you can download WAV files for free, cut and paste and make your own CD to listen to at night so you don't hear the other. Simple, huh?
