View Full Version : What made you get into NLP?

So far, I've had great results with NLP. I'm under the impression NLP can improve anyone's life, regardless of where he/she stands. I'm so enthusiastic about it that I told my family and close friends all about it. But everyone so far has showed little or no interest. Once I sense that vibe, I won't mention NLP again because I'm not one to force something upon others. I guess it comes down to that one saying, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear."
I actually heard of NLP many years ago when I read Awaken the Giant Within. I first thought it was hokey pokey/far out.. and I do consider myself to be a skeptical person. But once I realized the power of thoughts and imagination by reading books like The Power of Your Subconscious Mind and Psycho-Cybernetics, I knew I had to see what NLP was about. So I'm curious, for all of you who are really into NLP, what was it that sparked your initial interest and made you a believer?

I was going to training for clinical hypnotherapy. One of my "more" knowledgeable friends told me to make sure it contained NLP. I had no idea what NLP was but since she said I needed I must so I looked on-line and found a school that offered a lot of NLP (my usual mindset - if a little is good, a lot is better). I will readily admit that it was the most profound life change possible in this world and FUN too. I was literally reborn and enjoyed every second of it. Now I'm off for Trainer's Training soon to spread more NLP and I know it's going to be even more fun. I can only wish you the same joy! And, don't worry that other people don't know what you are talking about. After you come back from training, they'll want what you had. No more "I can't's. If it's possible in this world, it's possible for ME!" Pood :)

This forum board and the members here are my inspiration! I knew I wanted to know more (much more) about hypnosis and its possibilities, but then NLP came into my consciousness by reading about it HERE. I want to say it's the icing on the cake, but that's not right. It's a whole 'nother cake, just as delicious. Maybe more so. My teacher did one of those 2-fingers entwined things, to describe hypnosis and NLP.

I think we've all been aware of NLP on an intuitive level in our lives, at least I have! To study it formally is a joy and a pleasure, and cool beyond words!

Ah, if only I had some lofty purpose, but sadly I just wanted to learn self hypnosis to become a super sales person. Guess it worked though even when I changes paths and decided to be a therapist. Never paid for advertising, I just talked and talked, and got more clients than I could handle. I even got free exposure on radio talk shows several times. Of course, I did have the best possible exposure to hypnosis being a member of HSA instantly when I completed my first course. and stayed that way right through to today thirty eight years later.

Yay, Terry! Maybe the lofty ideals didn't draw you, but it's what you're utilizing now. That's truly more important for all of us--what we do with the knowledge and skills we learn, how we use these gifts--not what sparked the interest. (Though it is an interesting question!)

True Connie, plus I suppose, that fact that I got almost as much out of it as my clients combined. In sales I would have only made money, but in therapy I made money and also had the joy of helping those who were unable to get such help without my intervention. It didn't make me a better person, but it did give me a power to help others that I lacked before.

After seeing Poodle and Merlin perform on stage as The Amazing Mind-Bender Sisters, I fell in love with NLP and Hypnosis.

I'm purely involved in it for world domination.

Seriously, I'm not involved at all yet. I want to take my formal training in the next few years at least. I hang around these forums and pick the brains of the older, experienced folk and annoy them with seemingly incoherent questions and hearsay lol. All the while I'm trying to equip myself for the first seminar. I want it to happen before age 25 though...if I have any chance of giving these people a run for their money :P

I'm quite sure Merlin and I are going to be around for quite a while yet. I have no intention of retiring until past 80 so you have lots of time and just look at how old Merlin is now and she's still going strong.

That's brilliant. God willing the world (and me) will still be around when I reach that age.

I found it totally by accident and decided to read into it further. Total head over heals kinda thing.

Hi! I first got into NLP when I read a book Change your life in 7 days by Paul McKenna - I found it really helped me to start thinking differently - I was in a really negative relationship, in serious debt, in a job I hated and in a city away from my friends - I booked onto an NLP Practitioner Training Course that day and within 6 months I had changing jobs, doubled my income, moved back to my home city and ended my relationship. I completed my master practitioner training which propelled me to a whole new level, I found I started achieving even better results than I thought possible in my life and I am now certified as a Trainer of NLP. I guess what I am trying to say is NLP = results!! Max Watts

I got into NLP twentysome years ago, after learning the basics of hypnosis, being introduced to Tranceformations, and doing 6 step reframing. The idea of results being ecological, was a new and highly refreshing element, that I still enjoy.

Happy New Year 2 all
