Hello all,
I would appreciate anyone's advice on good schools to attend in or near Seattle, Washington.
Also, do you all think it is best to pursue graduate school in order to become a licensed mental health counselor as a way to enhance ones career as a hypnotherapist?
Thanks so much!

Wow, everybody's in Seattle, it seems! :)
(My home town!)
I'm studying right now with Bennett-Stellar, which was recommended to me via several people on this board. I have to tell you, I'm loving it!!! Here's the website if you want to check it out!

Welcome to the Forum. Some people do get degrees in psychology, etc. before taking hypnosis and NLP training. It is not necessary in any way but could be helpful. It all depends on what YOU want to do. If you do a little research on hypnosis you will find out that we existed long before talk therapy. Do you want to be a Clinical Hypnotherapist or do you want to be a hypnotist that can work on clinical issues? Do you want to learn NLP which to me is fantastic in or out of trance as it has a wide range of uses? Would you also like to add Time Line Therapy (or equivalent) to your toolbox? Would you like to specialize in hypnosis and perhaps get your doctorate in it?
Bennett/Stellar is a fine organization and you will get all your tools. Also American Pacific University at times goes to the Seattle area to offer training too. With APU, you can go all the way to Dr. of Hypnosis. Some members of this Forum are doing the APU training now to receive doctorates. I have not trained with APU but from reading comments written on this Forum, I think they must do a fantastic job. They also offer NLP and their version of Time Line Therapy. Michael Bennett of Bennett/Stellar did take a lot of his training from APU.
If you want strictly clinical hypnotherapy, I believe the closest to you would be in San Francisco. Feel free to look through the past pages of this Forum as the subject has been asked 100's of times.
Good luck and enjoy. It's fun and rewarding.

Graduate school is a complete waste of time if you want to go into private practice as a hypnotherapist. an advanced degree only helps if you want your resume given highest priority in being considered for staff jobs at public sector. all a patient wants is results when they are referred to you and grad school doesn't teach skills. its ironic that university doesn't teach the two skills you need the most: marketing skills to help get a practice off the ground, and behavioral changework skills like NLP or hypnosis to coach the patient in getting the changes they want

Audrey,
There is the business side of hypnotherapy and this website/blog covers it very well. http://hypnosismarketingtips.com. but you're probably not at this point yet

Shame on Harry for selling one-size-fits-all CD's; however I know of one that made over $300,000 selling just weight loss CD's.

I heard from an aquaintance that the laws in washington are in flux.
You might want to get the degree.
It's useless for hypnotherapy, but helpful legally.

Check the National Guild of Hypnotist website. They keep pretty close eyes on laws in different states and what is going on.
