Hello everyone,
I have dabbled in reading a few NLP Books long long ago and ,although I don't remember much, I found out a great way of addressing distressing memories that haunt you with pain. That made me want to really get into trying NLP for a lot of my problems since I had such a wonderful success with that one exersize.
I have what the "Medical Community" refers to as "Social Anxiety Disorder"...such a nasty sounding set of words, isn't it? I was wondering if there was any great NLP Exersizes that I could do that could eliminate total break downs of anxiety in Social Situations?

Basically, you people scare the sh** out of me and how do I feel normal and anxiety free as if I were completely alone? Any nice exersizes that can do that for me? Any insights would be awesome, thx.

Thanks for the reply, Poodle! Just to narrow my searching down , do you have any specific topic titles about this that comes to mind at the moment?
thx again :)

"Basically, you people scare the sh** out of me..."

And in what way is that inappropriate?

"WE" are scarey!

"THEY" scare me too, and that INCLUDES you!

So what you are telling me, is that you have an accurate assessment of the rest of us, and that in some contexts, it doesnt serve you well.

So what adjustment in that attitude would you have to make to feel and behave in those contexts the way you want to?

cheers,

Yes, I guess we all have things we fear, or which horrify us. People who mess with the minds of others without knowing what the hell they are doing have that effect on me. On the other hand, if your fear is such that only when you are alone are you relaxed, then perhaps you do have a problem. However, we now meet with another problem, since you say WE scare you also, so obviously we can be of no help to you can we? If you fear us and our knowledge, how likely is it that you would feel comfortable in consulting with us? Sorry for you loss, is all we can say......

NLP exercise - how about you go model a Zen Master and get your scared sh*tless ass out of meta land and into your very real living situation. You know what you need to do is fully associate yourself into your experience continually, until you realise 'your' anxiety is just stealing your life away without much of a good trade off. Personal life, however you have come to live it, is all about where you place your identity, all of that is spinning, fine enough, but you want control, you got to put yourself in a situation where you enable how far your identity flows into some or other thought impulse. Fact is, unless you learn to detach from the identities you are already hooked up in, you will never gain that power. The only time that ever happens is when you can detach from your spinning and bring yourself back into your very real bodily situation, most people are dreaming their lives away, and will go to NLP master to get a better dreamworld. All very nice, but you can take charge of your own world by exploring higher practices. Your life is already pushing you for this, since your anxiety is an indication of your innermost craving. NLP is about modelling other people's internal states for a particular outcome, if you choose to choose, choose wisely.

Theres two books I recomend they are:
"TALKING WITH CONFIDENCE FOR THE PAINFULLY SHY" by Don Gabor

"WILL I EVER FIT IN? The break through program for conquering adult dyssemia" by Stephen Nowicki & Marshall Duke

Combine with NLP therapy it could work wonders. (Not that you cant use NLP alone of course)

(and the other is abit pricy but is very good)

Using a combination of developing social skills (on what to say), with body langauge skills will help alot.

Hello Jajuju,

I used to have severe anxiety issues. Working with an incredibly talented professional still puts me at a loss for words glorious enough.

Some of the most effective methods for me have been a combination of visualized breathing strategies, confident posture regardless of my initial feeling, and a playful approach to managing my voice tonality.
