I receive newsletters from a website called Lifescript on weight and health issues. There was an article in today's newsletter about the benefits of hypnosis for hair loss. I was happy to see a nod to hypnosis and wanted to share it here. Though they couldn't resist downplaying it at the end of the article... it's mostly a nod to the field. I have cut and pasted the article rather than providing a link (due to recent spam). Hope that's okay to do...

Hypnosis may Reverse Hair Loss
HEALTH NEWS BYTESunday, September 24, 2006More than just a novelty act, hypnotherapy is a popular form of alternative medicine which is gaining some degree of credibility among medical professionals. In a surprising new study, researchers with the American Academy of Dermatology report that undergoing hypnosis may even offer benefits for people suffering from a form of hair loss. Researchers focused on a group of patients diagnosed with alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease that causes sudden, patchy hair loss. Patients in the study participated in hypnotherapy sessions once every three weeks over a period of three months, in addition to other medical treatments. At the conclusion of the study period, researchers found that slightly more than half of the patients had experienced a remarkable 75% rate of hair re-growth. All patients in the study also reported feeling reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression, lasting months after the end of treatment.
What This Means for You Hypnotherapy may be particularly effective among those patients who failed to respond to more traditional treatments, such as prescription steroids. However, it should be noted that the current study was based on a limited sample of 21 patients, and further trials are needed. Talk to your doctor about alternative treatments for hair loss.
