Hi everyone. I am new to the business end of hypnosis and am trying to set up a practice and am not sure which way to go. There seem to be so many areas where hypnosis would be applicable. It would seem that it would be better to specialize than try to work them all. Advice anyone? How would one find and bring in people to find out if hypnosis is right for them and their problems? I live in a small blue collar town where it is hard to convince people of the value of anything they can't hold in their hands. Also, I have had very good and extensive training and yet I have a confidence problem stemming from the fact that I do not want to make promises I cant deliver on. I have spoken to over fourty people that have undergone hypnosis for one problem or another and all have said that it was a waste of time and money. I hope that this is due to them having contacted "cut-rate" hypnotists and not a reflection on hypnosis effectiveness itself. I have invested alot of heart and money into learning hypnosis and would like to see it grow to a full time carreer. Since my own experience in a private practice setting is so limited I would greatly welcome experienced statements about how effective or ineffective hypnosis has been for any problems, as drawn from your professional experience.:o Sorry to be so long winded, just anxious Thanx;)

If you reread your post, you will note some discrepancies in your statements.
First you say you have had excellent training, yet it seems that in the first place no practise was provided, something any good teacher would be sure to provide. Secondly, if it was so good, how come you are so anxious now?
Thirdly, you state that you live in an area were it is difficult to find clients, yet at the same time, claim to have met and talked to 40 people who have visited a hypnotist in the past! In twenty one years of practise, I didn't meet that may people who had previously had such an experience before coming to me for help. Your town must be a real live one.....
I have no idea what you expect to gain from your post, but rereading it may be of help to your understanding of your situation. Terry

Welcome,

It's best to go to a nearby college and take a few business classes. You're in business now :)
Which areas you work in depends on your interest and the market where you live.Working with cancer is good, but would it pay the bills?

Stop smoking & weight loss are the bread & butter of most hypnotists because of the abundance of potential clients.

>How would one find and bring in people to find out if hypnosis is right for them and their problems?

What did your instructor say when he taught this?

>I live in a small blue collar town where it is hard to convince people of the value of anything they can't hold in their hands

Maybe you've chosen a bad market.

>Also, I have had very good and extensive training and yet I have a confidence problem stemming from the fact that I do not want to make promises I cant deliver on.

Didn't you deliver during your clinical/supervised training?
What's changed?

Hypnosis often doesn't work. It takes a hypnotist that knows how to do hypnosis. Many don't.

I find hypnosis very effective in many areas.
Wishing you success :)
