This is the last straw, over the past 6 months I have to do everything a certain amount of times and when I do my brain tells me I have to do it some more times just to make sure. I seem to be counting images which come into my head and if I don't do it a certain amount of times I feel physically and mentally ill. I was basically wondering if hypnosis or hypnotherapy can help in some way or perhaps some other kind of therapy, i would appreciate you're help as I don't know who to turn to.

p.s. Have I left it too late to get help.

Thanks,
Zidane Hater.

It's never too late.

I would recommend seeing a psychiatrist, sounds like some form of OCD, but I don't know enough or am qualified to make such a diagnosis. Sure hypnotherapy can help OCD, but get a recommendation from a psychiatrist first. Whatever you do don't leave it, mental health issues left unresolved just get worse, but are often easily fixed, especially with hypnosis.

Regards etc.

You may have an OCD. A Master NLP Practitioner or Trainer can easily end OCD's in a very, very short time frame whereas traditional psychotherapy can take YEARS. Your choice and wishing you the best.

It's wonderful to have a diagnosis that finally tells us what we have. So, as my compatriots have stated, you may have OCD.

Personally, I don't worry about that. That's a medical definition and I'm not a doctor. You have images in your mind that you keep counting, and it bothers you if you don't count them. That is what we call a behavior. And behaviors can be quickly and easily changed with hypnotherapy.

The sooner you get to a hypnotherapist, the sooner you'll change. Oh, and hypnotherapy is a type of brief therapy. It should not take many months or years to change, just several sessions.

Good luck, and let us know what happens, ok?

How can hypnotherapy help exactly?

p.s. I didn't think it really mattered what my name was but I take the World Cup very seriously.

It is unethical to diagnose you from a hypnotherapeutic standpoint over the internet. It may be that what you are experiencing as a problem is only a manifestation of something else. This is all something that can be dealt with in person with a professional hypnotherapist with experience in the field.

IF your description is thorough and totally accurate, and IF you're not already in treatment by an M.D., then it is possible that a part of your unconscious mind feels it is very important to do the counting. A qualified hypnotherapist would get that part of your mind to cease its counting and help you do other things.

Poster, you ask a perfectly fair question, and when you get a fair online reply, you ask for greater detail and, "how to"? Such information is above basic advice and is tantamount to both an assumption that you know what is wrong, and that we tell you how it should be fixed. Neither is acceptable, and collides with our intelligence, our ethics, and our art. We offer only ADVISE, we do not diagnose, we don't treat, and we don't train online. That is what a personal interview is for. As for the question re your choice in sig:s, I imagine the questioner was interested in your state of mind, and had no intention of being insulting. Of couse I too could be wrong, and that is only an opinion. Perhaps he is French:D

I warm to Don's take on this. None of us knows whether you have OCD or not and even though what you have described sounds like it, it may not be. Hypnotherapy or NLP might help for this unwanted behaviour but there is no guarantee since neither therapy works for all of the people all of the time.

And as for hating Zidane, there is too much hate in the world and life is very short, so as part of your treatment forget about Zidane, forget about hating anyone and concentrate on yourself and getting better.

Hi
It seems you have the key to your own cure right in front of you. You wrote "I can't stop, I just can't" This is equal to saying I can do the process of not stopping. You seem to do this process very well, you could say you do this most excellently. In fact you do this so well that you do it automatically without even thinking about it. Cool! What would happen if you lost this ability? Like if you forgot how to do this? Can you imagine what it would be like if one day you just forget how you do it? Would you be attending to something important like dodging an oncoming car in your lane and for that short legnth of time your unconscious mind actually forgot to count and had to attend to something important and leave that silly game go for a while and then you just forgot how to do it now.

Consider these questions slowly.

What would happen if you did it?

What would happen if you didn't do it?

What wouldn't happen if you did it?

What wouldn't happen if you didn't do it?

What is really amazing is how well we can remember how to not fall down when we walk or how well we can remember to not pee in our pants or how well we don't breathe when we are under water. Or how well we forgot to cry when we didn't get our bottle when we grew out of being a baby. Isn't it amazing how we are constantly moving on to new and better things! I heard this friend of mine tell me of a guy she knew whose wife was at a conference listening to this speaker teach people how to forget, it was great for only $3000 dollars this man would show you how you can forget how to do anything! I was thinking I might learn how to forget how to feel bad about all the things I couldn't do perfectly or learn how to forget how to feel good about all the things I can't do badly. It's almost like an ice cream cone I want to enjoy it slowly but the drips keep getting me down. I can learn how to forget that I can't move on because the world and ice cream cones are not perfect. If you haven't counted the letters in this rambling reply you already know how not to do it.
