I really don't want to offend you but you seem to have a computer. USE IT! Find that which is right for you. What was right for me or someone else may not be what is right for you. Have you even bothered to see who sponsors this little web-board????? Good Luck and Congrats on your decision. Pood

www.aaph.org (http://www.aaph.org)... I take serious exception to your comment that since you have a BA in psycology, you can go straight to a masters in hypnosis. Don't you think that is a little cavalier on your part...

... I just thought asking a community of people that is familar with nlp and hypnosis would help me narrow my search.

now really, is it that surprisng that i'm asking a nlp and hypnosis forum these questions? especially considering that nlp and hypnosis isn't widely accepted in the academic world and is even considered as a pseudo science by most???? is it really that surprising that i'm over here ????

Now, in my search, i found in california that there is only 1 private university for transcental psychology and that being the closest to parapsychology i can find.....now in regards of nlp , i only see classes being offered but no degree programs being offered. it seems to me that most stated university in cali dont offer nlp or hypnosis or even accept it! i'm still looking though..thats why i was here but i probably wont come back here.....

i actually got a whole collection of nlp ebooks that i'm studying right now but i feel that that isn't enough for me and im in search of a trustworthy credible institute that offers nlp....

poodle, thanks for your comment...terry, i'd like to especially thank you too. muah! i completely love and accept you!

Terry, I think part of the problem here is a miscommunication.

In the U.S., post high school education receives degrees of Bachelor, Master, and Doctor, in that order.

Having received a Bachelor's degree, our unregistered guest, I assume, was looking for some place to get their next degree, a Master's, in the field of NLP and hypnosis. Generally, this would require a minimum of two years of work.

I'm also assuming that you, Terry, were looking at our guest's request as a way of simply bypassing basic training and going directly to master-level training. The miscommunication here would have been over the term "master."

Guest, I know of no accredited school in the U.S. that offers any degree with a specialty in either NLP or hypnosis. There are several reasons for this, not the least being the impact of Freud on psychology (and university psychology departments) and the fact that he was 1) an abject failure as a hypnotist, 2) that hypnotherapy is brief in nature, and 3) Freud admitted that he was looking for a long-term therapy (analysis, the "talking cure") so he could make lots of money and be successful where he failed as a short-term (hypno-) therapist.

Thanks for the correction Don, yes I did indeed understand the request as you surmised. Fact is we are careful about what we offer our students, and to get a masters here would require many years of study, plus a thesis at the end for it or a masters degree. I imagine I could therefor claim to be a "Master of Hypnosis" south of the border, while I am just a humble practitioner here!!!!!!! Sorry guest for the misunderstanding, us canooks think differently, and the idea of going from a BA which is just one year of University successfully achieved in some area of interest, then going on to at least four years of study for a degree, followed by a Masters thesis.... Some areas of study of course extend beyond that, such as medicine, dentistry, Vertinary medicine etc, which take at least seven years. Any wonder I thought you were being snooty? (G)

Yeah.

Here in "the States" it generally requires four years to get a Bachelors and another two for the Masters, and then two or (quite frequently) more for a Doctorate. The Masters doesn't usually require a thesis, but the Doctorate does.

Usually, the Bachelors covers general "liberal arts" (2 years) and the subject in which you get your degree (2 years), although they are frequently intermixed. Some liberal arts classes have frantic college seniors begging to get in because they need something as simple as an English Lit class to finish their general ed. requirements.

And I'm sure you would be a Doctor of Hypnosis wherever you go!

I know of nowhere one can get the Master's Degree without the accompanying thesis. Now one girl here did it in one year in Vermont (English) and she has this summer to write her thesis. Exactly what a Master's Degree in English qualifies one to do I can't really say unless one would like to take some education courses too.

Now, for the original poster -- NLP comes in three groupings -- NLP Practitioner, Master Practitioner and finally Trainer. Please note, however, that NLP does not think much of psychology nor do psychologists think much of NLP. Don was quite right in posting that Freud wanted to be a hypnotist and even attended training in France but had done so much coke that he couldn't wear dentures well so he went on to develop "talk" therapy and his other strange ideas.

Now hypnosis is a hypnotist (or hypnotherapist) and then, if desired, a Certified Instructor. I am aware of one school that grants degrees in hypnosis and you are on their web-board. Pood
