Hi all,
I wonder if you could help please? Following some recommendations I have been reading some books and watching some DVD's by Gerry Kein and Carl Banyan on inductions etc.
They mention in passing some indicators that people are in hypnosis, such as increased swallowing in some people or redder eyes.
Does anyone have a list of such physical indicators and some idea how reliable these are? I've only seen them alluded to but never explicitly stated.
Thank-you,
Ian

Not to be a smart ass, but there are several postings in the archives that cover this exact topic.

Well I've looked and couldn't find them. Perhaps someone could be kind enough to point them out?

Hi there
As far as I'm aware...
Deeper, more shallow breathing
Flush to the face
Swallowing
Flickering eyelids
Facial features relaxed and slackI have only really ever observed flickering eyelids (being the most common from my experience), followed by swallowing, then deep breathing - never seen a facial flush.
However, everyone is different so I wouldn't completely rely on this method to see if someone is in hypnosis.
Hope this helps.

Thanks very much. I hadn't heard of the flushed face.

I have found that physiological changes while important can be
somewhat deceiving. In my experience the best way to determine
if someone has achieved hypnosis is to use tests or challenges or as
sometimes referred to as convincers. Some of these (i.e. light arm, stiff
arm, glove anesthesia) can be used not only as a determinant of trance
but as a way of measuring depth of trance.
While reading books and watching DVDS is a great way to supplement your
knowledge there is no substitute for hands on training by a competent
hypnosis instructor.
Good Luck,
Harris

Glove anesthesia is a specific part of hypnosis and has nothing at all to do with "state of trance" other than for the client to be in a deep state of hypnosis. What are you going to do? Jab needles into them? Pinch them hard? It is to be used under the auspecies of a MD in the USA. You just don't willy-nilly do it. WRONG. As far as a "flushed face" - never seen it.
I would hope that you get proper training with a good instructor that will go over these points with you one by one. Pretty hard to know if you have done something right if you have no idea of what to look for.
I know for sure the levels of hypnosis are in the back pages as I put them there! Pood

"Eyerolls" are a somewhat rare indicator. I missed it on me, as I was
a demo subject for a class when I demonstrated it for them. Oh well. :)
