well I've been lurking on the forum for a while and have finally decided to join.I have tried tapes before but they have not worked. So thats what brought me to this forum in the first place and after doing some searching found out that tapes work for some people but not for all.So I have decided to visit a hypnotherapist next saturday.I have one question though.Would a script like the one below work to help someone go into trance when they want?

From this moment on you are able to enter hypnosis entirely on your own. To do so, you count, in your mind from 0 to 20. With each count you look for the feeling of going a bit deeper into hypnosis. At 20 in the count you find yourself in a most pleasant and effective level of self hypnosis. At that time your subconscious mind will be open and receptive to suggestions and visualizations you give to it, and requests you make of it. You are able to give your subconscious mind suggestions for focused concentration, accelerated learning, powerful recall, photographic memory, enhance motivation, dream incubation, post hypnotic suggestion and more. You enjoy studying and practicing self hypnosis. You are now able to give your subconscious mind any suggestions you want and they will be accepted by your subconscious mind in the most beneficial way. When you want to come out of hypnosis you count, in your mind, from 20 to 0. At 0 you will be wide awake, feeling very good. Or you can go from hypnosis into sleep. By turning everything over to your subconscious mind that might keep you awake, you easily and quickly drift into a deep, sound, restful sleep, awakening when you should, feeling refreshed and full of energy. This skill for self hypnosis will never leave you and will grow better in some way each time you use it. For you self hypnosis is now a powerful lifelong tool.

Why don't you let your hypnotist do his/her own work? I'm quite sure s/he knows more about the subject than you do. If a client came to me with a written script I would tell them to LEAVE NOW and return when they were ready if then.

On the otherhand, if you were to go in for a session and asked your hypnotist for self-hypnosis you'd probably get it. Then you will need to know how to use it effectively. It's a gift I often give my clients.

Where is 'hypnosis'?

Counting down, such as the script above does, can work if you know where to go.

What if I said
'at 20 you leave your house.
at 19 you arrive at my house.
at 18 you knock on my door.
at 17...'
See my point?
You need to first know where hypnosis is. That's why we suggest getting help from someone who knows where hypnosis is.

>I have tried tapes before but they have not worked.

They probably didn't show you where hypnosis is.

i agree with merlin on the counting down part, you may find that your hypnotherapist will do that too.
they will somtimes countdown to get you into a trance and upwards to get out of it.
SOme will even count upwards to get you into a trance but i dont like that personally becuause i think counting down gives a better feeling or relaxation in more people tahn counting up would.
