Hi,
I am at my witts end trying to manage my OCD. Arfe there folks out there that can cure it through hypnosis---heck people are hypnotized to stop smoking so I was hoping dealing with OCD should be a piece of cake.
Any suggestions would be gret!
Hi, Ivancleave1!
OCD, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, is a medical diagnosis. As such, no hypnotist in the U.S. (at least, not as I am aware) may legally treat it without a written referral from a licensed medical professional.
So as a hypnotist, I don't treat OCD. But the thing is, OCD is simply a name that covers a wide range of individual behaviors. The behaviors that manifest in one person diagnosed with OCD may be completely different from another person also diagnosed with OCD.
Let's look at this another way. Assume a person had the following symptoms: headache, fever, body pains, dehydration
And another person had the following symptoms:
headache, muscle weakness, bleeding from the eyes.
Now, imagine that a doctor said they were both suffering from the same disease. Most people would laugh at that. How could one disease have such different symptoms?
So, my friend, let's totally forget the diagnosis, okay? You have some behaviors that you don't want to have any more, correct? Well, I've got great news! A trained, experienced hypnotherapist works with people to help them change behavior patterns every day!
Now, every person is a unique individual, as is every hypnotherapist. So I can't guarantee that you'll change your behavior patterns in any specific amount of sessions. But if you get a trained, experienced hypnotherapist who works with changing the types of behavior you no longer desire, it could take a surprisingly short amount of time to make the change.
But look at it this way: how long have you had behaviors you don't want troubling you? If that could be lessened in a few months or changed completely, wouldn't that be great? And it is possible.
Hypnotherapists talk about change, not cure. If you don't like behavior A, we can help you change to another, more desired behavior. We don't "cure" anything.
How do you find someone who is trained and experienced in the field where you need assistance? Look 'em up in the phone book and ask. It's that simple.
The next step is yours. Good luck!

I would try a NLP Master Practitioner if your diagnosis is correct which we don't know if it is or isn't.

I wouldn't call it a piece of cake.
I would tell you hypnosis or NLP can help.
