Hi. My main question at the moment is, how long do hypnosis and NLP take to really begin to make changes in ones life? I was always under the impression that NLP and hypnosis were brief therapies.
As I've said before, I have extensive diagnoses that interfere with my life like depression, general anxiety, social anxiety, and ADD. I have recently been hypnotized four times by people who also say they use NLP, and I haven't noticied any improvements. If I have not noticed any changes by now, should I just give up on it or is it common that it can take quite a bit longer in some cases? One hypnotist said our sessions would need to be extensive considering the extent of my depression. Is this truth or fallacy? I was also under the impression that all these diagnoses and problems are probably linked to one main cause/issue and that hypnosis could unravel the web quickly and change emotions and behaviors? Is this off?
I mainly want some opinions on whether I should stick with this or give up on it working. I'd also like to know how long I should give it before realizing it's not for me. I've heard some people are cured in one session. Would'nt that be nice?
I'm glad I got a reference for one of the best NLPers and hypnotists in my area. So maybe it's just a matter of finding the right person...

i have given a reply to this for you on the nlp forum but would also like to point out one thing.
Hypnosis, NLP etc can help you get over a problem but it cant make the cause of the problem go away.
Take my freind for example, it annoys me that she spends so much time and money with hypnotherapists, psachiatrists etc when very evidently one of the main causes of the problem is her bf which she has even said to me on several occasions yet she still goes out with him. now hypnosis can help her be more confident, get over her bf, help her to be happier etc but so long as the cause is still there it will come back eventually. This is true in alot of situations, not necessarily illneses but in situations similar to what i have just mentioned.
I dont know what your situation or problem is but think about what ive said and see if there is anything you need to get rid of to move on, also tell your hypnotherapist what you think you need to get rid of to move on but dont just rely on him you must try and get rid of the source yourself too.
hope this helps

I can't give you an exact number of hours or sessions because everyone is different.
It's possible that you would deal with one issue and several of the others would simply vanish. It's also possible that getting rid of one issue might result in your becoming aware of other issues.
However, both NLP and hypnotherapy are considered "brief therapy," so you should not expect to continue with either form of aid for more than a few months, far different that most other forms of therapy which could require many years, or like Woody Allen, decades (without much real help, IMO).

NLP and Hypnosis are brief therapies.
That means it's far quicker than other methods. But each person is different and exactly how long it'll take is different for each of us.
>I have extensive diagnoses...
Obviously it could take time to resolve things then.
Sometimes one issue shows several symptoms, but sometimes there are multiple symptoms for one issue.
If there is only one issue, but several symptoms, then things go more quickly.
>I have recently been hypnotized four times by people
How many people?
Why so many?
>One hypnotist said our sessions would need to be extensive considering the extent of my depression. Is this truth or fallacy?
Sometimes.
It really depends on how much is going on.
>I was also under the impression that all these diagnoses and problems are probably linked to one main cause/issue and that hypnosis could unravel the web quickly and change emotions and behaviors? Is this off?
Probably off. But we aren't working with you and can't tell without resorting to some kind of telepathy.
> I've heard some people are cured in one session. Would'nt that be nice?
Sure it'd be nice. But it's not always realistic.

Thanks to all. You are made good points and it clarifies alot for me. The four hypnotisms were done by only two people (not four different ones), but I have gotten a referral for someone who is supposed to be very effective and I am looking forward to our session. I was not comfortable in my sessions with the other two and isn't it true that NLP and hypnosis are more effective if you trust and feel comfortable around the therapist?Comforting to know that it is supposed to be brief therapy because I spent four years in psychotherapy and am in the same place as I started.
Thanks again for the insights.
Hello Danielleclem,
You have indicated a very good reason why the sessions you have had have not worked for you.
If you don't feel comfortable with a therapist then go somewhere else. Usually you can tell within the first few minutes if the therapist makes you feel ok, so if you go along to your next one and it doesn't feel right, then makes your excuses and leave. If the therapist is a good one then they will not have a problem with that.

Yes they are right, the hypnosis and nlp, are one of the fastets methods for '' healing '' see that it will take some time because everybody has to ''heal'' the disorders one by one. more time ,and there is the matter of resistanse, we dont know how much are and how they complete each other, i mean how do they are linked. understanding for cure needs time and time will also be diferent betwen therapist to therapist.

We don't "CURE" anything. We equip the client with the appropriate tools to take care of their own problem. It seems from previous posts that Danielle has not had trust in her practitioners/hypnotists so obviously things are not going to go swimmingly. She also does not have a lot of $$ to throw away on NOTHING therapy.
Danny, things take as long as they take. It's like when you take your car to the garage and you ask the mechanic how long is it going to take. The answer is it's going to take as long as it takes. Period the End.
Hypnosis and NLP are much faster than traditional therapy and also work very well with traditional psychotherapy. It all depends on what is in your mind -- is it 10 separate issues or just one issue with a multitude of symptoms. We are not there to be with you sugar, so you are going to have to check these people out very carefully. You now know all the appropriate questions to ask and you are going to be the first one to know that you are free of this.
Please feel free to come back to the Forum anytime to ask questions. We hope for the best for you! Pood :)
Some people charge by the session, some my the hour and often times multiple sessions will give you a nice price break. It just depends on how your chosen prefers to run his/her business.
