Wondering here if it would be possible for you to get a camera turned to you saying 'hi' to all of us during this Soccer World Cup. That would be KEWL!! "Hi to everyone on AMPAC Forum"
Happily yours~Pood

Saw a little of your country on the news yesterday. Just a short distance away a skeleton was found of a man a couple of million years old in fantastic condition. Certainly has got scientists BUSY. You can now say that you live close to where the very first humanoid type beings lived. As I remember there was also a woman near him of the same 2 million years of age. What a claim to fame.
Be well~Pood
The interesting thing is that an entire skeleton was found and not, as often happens, part of the jaw, a couple of hand bones etc.
Results look promising.

It must have not made as big of an impression in Italy as it did in the USA. It's claimed that these two skeletons are the link and died together, most probably looking at each other. Also said it is the most valuable find yet in the entire history of the world. It was just a lad that uncovered the young male head and took it to his father, about five feet away then they started looking around and found the rest of the male and then the female. The difference between two million years ago is that the brain was smaller -- larger than a primate but smaller than today and arms and legs were longer indicating they used arms in the trees and could run long distances. It's also speculated they knew how to use 'tools' and most probably fire.
Our Jacko could have gone for a little walk outside of the city and found these and would have been the richest man in the world.
Perhaps not everyone loves geology/paleontology as much as I do.
Stay well~Pood
Poodle,
it did make an impression also here in Italy. I'm also a scientist, so I read everyday the scientific literature (the discover was published on Science). The insights that are likely be obtained are very promising. When I am in science-mode, I am usually quite conservative :D.
Now, I have a passion for the evolution of Homo (skeletons were not Homo, by the way) and a couple of years ago I looked for a change of career. I could talk about it for hours, so I will stop now :).
I read a nice book a week ago, the 10,000 year explosion. Nice read.

Do you know the name scientists are giving these two "links". They are not quite human as we are, yet they are not primate either. The photos showed them to look exactly as we do except with a smaller skull for brain and longer arms and legs which they needed at that time. They had the male's skull right next to a modern day male skull and the only difference is size of top of head for brain. The teeth are completely what we have, nose and eye placements exactly as we are now. FASCINATING!!
