View Full Version : NLP and paraliminal cds/tapes - how to listen effectively?

hey guys. i have quite a few cds/tapes with me on paraliminals and NLPs. i was wondering what is the most effective way of listening to them?
i tend to fall asleep most of the times, though i would wake up after the whole thing is finished, so i was thinking, does that actually help at all? or should i be fully conscious when i am listening?
I generally use my ears.
I tried the bone conduction method. Where I could 'hear' as long as the diodes were placed on a thin skin area over bone, but damn it tickled! Tickled enough to be distracting.
A unique experience for sure.
So I prefer ears, hands down.
ymmv,

let me rephrase that a bit. in what state should i be if i want to get the most out of listening to the tapes/cds?
fully conscious, semi-conscious (trance??), or is falling asleep midway through listening just as good?

JirQUEST,
Just ignore Skip, I think he's recently been modelling Terry. ( jus' kidding ya, Skip http://forum.hypnosis.com/images/icons/icon12.gif)
re your question, JirQUEST: I presume by your question you mean your intention in listening to tapes/cds is to be in some kind of hypnotic state, from which you wish to derive benefit from the tapes/cds, and you are wondering if any of 'fully conscious, semi-conscious, or falling asleep midway' states would be appropriate, and if so, which would be most appropriate?
Have I got that right?
If so, tapes/cds are considered to be somewhat limited in their use, since they are more 'generalised' in their application, in that there is no NLPer/hypnotist in front of you to guage your response, and adjust the communication appropriately, for the outcome you require.
So; in a way, your question is impossible to answer, since the real answer is: whichever state works best for you is the one to go for, if you are prepared to accept the inherent limitations of tapes/cds.
Personally, I've used a fair few tapes/CDs, and find a sort of semi-conscious trance-like state to be best.
But everyone is different, and, as I say, tapes/CDs are considered to be somewhat limited.
Good luck.

unreg, that was precisely what i wanted to bring across. i am still new to this whole NLP/paraliminal thing, and u surprised me when u said they are more generalised, thus having a different effect for everyone. but thanks for the reply. i appreciate that.

Since Skip is presumed to be imitating me, perhaps we should have a comparison eh? What state you ask? Well, your question as put leaves you open to multiple definitions. For example state of dress? should be fully dressed and not in your Pjs, they tend to encourage sleep, which again is not a good state for you at this time. Sobriety, well, if you listen drunk, you may find yourself enjoying the sessions so much that you will be listening several time each day, and hoping you never get results and have to stop. Therefor sobriety is important. Mind; well, you should have one rather than need to borrow one for the session, but don;t worry, it is unlikely that you will get results so sleep if you must, such tapes are indeed a good aid to sleep if you have worked hard all day. I always found that when listening to tapes, even made by a skilled person, that they put me to sleep, so I must conclude they do the same for others. There you go, fully dressed an sober is the ticket, and if you fall asleep, join the majority. There now, is that clear enough for you? By the way, the way to judge tape quality is if they relax you and you fall asleep, they are not doing any thing except putting you to sleep. I guess your buddy missed out on that one.....

I know for sure a couple by Bandler did put me in that darned NLP trance but a NLP trance is very different from a hypnotic trance. I know that any truly skilled NLP Trainer can do the same whether on CD or person and by truly skilled I mean someone like Skip or Bandler. There is not that much difference in quality between those two guys.
So YES, a NLP CD can put you into a NLP trance and upon emerging you will be asking yourself was I asleep, did it really happen? You will not know if you were on foot or horseback! YES IT CAN!!

Then I stand corrected girl, I had always assumed that both trances were identical, but since I have not taken training in NLP I can hardly be considered an expert (G)

Please explain more about this difference.

Wow, now that's a damn fine compliment to Skip

i understand there is a difference between the two trances but was wondering if you could explain why you think it is a big difference.
