I've seen a script on this site for reading faster. Has anybody here used that script or a similar one? What were your results in terms of wpm? Also, I've heard that techniques like photoreading allows you to store information faster, but not consciously understand them. Do you understand on the subconscious level then? Thanks

I got a program on torrent file called eyeQ which clamed it would improve me reading speed, and it did I now read at about 770 words per min. I started at 240WPM. I recommend it to anyone.
Hello Roger,
I have a script for reading slower. I have provisionally entitled it 'Age'.
But I realised that although I am reading slower now it is because I am understanding more. Or that could be an illusion.

Reading Tony Buzan books, these mention that your comprehension and understanding of material gets better as you read quicker.
Funny that I've found this thread as I was reading an article about speed reading 5 mins ago on this website which was posted today.

I know Tony Buzan says this, and it may be true, but my experience is that many years ago at university I could read around 1000wpm and because this was not eidetic - photographic - my knowledge increased in a general sense but not in a particular sense - in other words I was getting the big picture but not the detail.
My reading speed now is around 300wpm and my comprehension and memory of detail is much improved. It could be that beyond a certain point speed is not helpful in comprehension unless one has the ability to remember the page as an image.

Jack, I agree with you.
Year ago, I took the original course in speed reading, from the Evelyn Wood school. It took 8 weekly lessons plus daily practice.
By the end, I could read at 3,000 to 5,000 wpm, and if I really put my mind to it an focused, faster than 10,000 wpm. At that speed I felt I sort of absorbed and knew the material, but I didn't know the specifics on a conscious level. As a result, I used to refer to the technique as the Evelyn Wood School of Speed Skimming.
I can still turn on the speed reading when I want to, but if I really want to treasure the use of prose, the turn of a phrase, and focus on individual pages or paragraphs, I slow down by choice.
Exactly my experience, Don.
