A fellow once said 'If you give me a sufficent lever I can move the earth.'

"If you let me set the frame ..."

And there is another direction this question might be going.

'If you dont know where you are going, any road will get you there, and wherever it is that you arrive will be it.

I do not know the intent of the question, and so cannot say difinitivly which direction you might choose for your answer.

Or you could pursue both lines of thought.

Is that sufficent?

I'm really wondering why you are posting it here instead of at least attempting to answer it yourself. Where is your instructor, fellow classmates and where in the world are your books?

Let's look at that same question from a NLP point of view instead of using the words hypnosis/hypnotherapy --

Did the client tell you what they wanted to do or not wanted to do? They often ask with the negative which you then have to ask them again, what do you really want until they come up with a positive. This then becomes the desired outcome.

Can that desired outcome be initiated and maintained by SELF?

and, ALWAYS THE DESIRED OUTCOME HAS TO BE ECOLOGICAL -- this does not mean a judgment call by any of us. We need to know the ramifications of this desired outcome upon family, friends, job, etc. If it fails to be ecological, client is sent away.

Can you now properly frame a request?

I believe US$50.00 should cover the above, don't you? Please send payment through PayPal or in the alternative send a check to Dr. Matt James at American Pacific University in Hawaii for allowing you to have some place to ask a question and receive correct answers.

Pood (and personally, I would use the word "reframing" instead of "framing". The client has already "framed" so you need to "reframe". Unfortunately I cannot recommend any book right now. They are all packaged for moving.

i am reading and am always open to others' perspectives and articulating my answers gets easier the more i listen to/read others' valued opinions, hence, i ask not in ignorance but to allow the roots of my constantly developing knowledge tree to grow through the varied answers of others on forums such as this.
knowledge is infectious, and i want to expose myself to as many differing views as possible to make my knowledge system strong like the oak that braves winds from many angles

thankyou guys

dash,

Not sure how to answer your question. I guess I need a better understanding of where you are coming from.

So first I'm curious from your point of view what would happen if you didn't consciously frame toward a client's outcome? And are you aware that the four possible responses to a hypnotic suggestion are the same four possible responses to normal waking suggestions in everyday conversation?

To Your Best,
Doc Houston

Did not everything happen in your life, so that you could become what you are today? Through a certain perspective, outside the limitations of our habitual perception of time, what you are today is the gravity-center which has been pulling you forward through time, causing you to experience everything enroute to your own becoming. As I see it, the purpose of establishing a well-formed outcome, is to connect with some desired potentiality-of-being already formed in the future, thus allowing it's existence to help pull us in that direction. Without that well-formed outcome, we are being pulled in many possible directions, like riding two (or two thousand!) horses at once. Short answer ... the purpose is to receive help from the future.
