Hello,
Skip, or any other NeLPer:
Collapsing anchors is well known to most NeLPers. It's commonly done kinesthetically by touch. Sometimes touch is not possible. So, how might a collapse anchor be done without touching?

You could rapp your fingers on the table or, change your tone of voice of cough, or scratch YOUR nose. But you have to repeat them a few times for them to be throughally accepted.
As you know Steve anything can be used as an anchor.
First decide the dominant representational system.
Visual:
Spatially locate the anchors, and then physically grab them and smash them together. When worlds collide! Or gradually bring them together as if pulled gently by magnets.
Auditory:
Another is to have them imagine two tones, each tone representing one of the anchors you wish to collapse, and then imagine the tones first blending in harmony then merging to become a completely new tone. Or two insturments playing one note, one sleightly sharp, the other sleightly flat, gradually brought into perfect pitch.
Gustatory:
Make spaghetti sauce. Actually one of my favorites is caviar and cold spaghetti noodles. I know I wouldnt have thought of it either but it is delicious. The key element here is to take two dissimilar things that they have mixed and come up with something tasteful. Prailenes and cream?
Olfactory:
Fresh bread. Then fresh cinimon bread. Oh yea! Or big green dog farts and striking a match. (I assume you know how effectively the burning of a match negates the methane smell)

hello Skip,
Thanks for the insight. I shoulda known but sometimes i get a brain cramp and just can't get it.
Steve,
You know you could design yourself a little behavioral modification that would forever eliminate that.

"get a brain cramp and just can't get it"
...you could design yourself a little behavioral modification that would forever eliminate that.
What do you mean Skip
_________
Tom
Tom K,
I meant just that.
NLP is particularly suited to 'teaching' your neurology to go from an unresourceful state to a resourceful one.
What would happen if every time Steve's unconscious recognized the 'symptoms' Steve describes as a "brain cramp", and redirected his attention to a more resourceful state instead of 'confused lockdown' (my interpretation not Steves)?
Steve wouldnt experience "brain cramp" anymore, because, before he ever consciously got to "brain cramp" his unconscious would lead him somewhere else. That 'elsewhere' would be somewhere of his own choosing. Somewhere he percieves as more useful than "brain cramp".

Gedday folks
I have done anchor collapses using simple guided imagery and I suspect most of us have.
Especially effective when the voice tones are different and are also modified gradually to a meeting place.
eg: Voice tone component is Anchor #1= high voice tone
Anchor #2 is lower voice tone.
collapsed state is mid tone range

Wow, so there are these tow different aspects of you isn't there? And isn't it funny how they can appear to be so different
a world apart in fact
Now the thing about the world is, it has a North Pole and a South Pole doesn't it?
and the North Pole is like (anchor #1)
so the South Pole is like (Anchor #2)
Yes?
Now you know
a lot of people, when they only think about the Poles kinda forget about a simple fact
there is a whole world in between
You know the North Pole is so close to countries like Greenland, Iceland, Northern Europe
The South Pole is so close to Southern Australia (Tasmania), new Zealand
blah blah blah
Talk about how there is also a world between Anchors #1 and #2
and they can explore those uncharted lands
and it isn't unitl peple have this whole world view that they really have the whole story (picture, world) is it?

One of my favourites is to do it walking.
Draw a series of circles on the floor, and step into each, anchoring the state you want to each circle.
You can do this over the phone with someone.
You can use this for chaining anchors or collapsing them. You can create positive resource anchors anywhere in you house if you like, by using a spatial anchor like this.
I have a great resource anchor in my bathroom!!
Have a great day.
you should see the states I step into when I get out of bed, or into for that matter ...

Gedday folks
Ever asked someone to just smile?
Come to that, most jokes are a form of collapsing anchors.
hmmmm, this'll make me look at our Parliament in a new light
