Client #1 - either you did not make the suggestions right or the client really didn't want to change
Client #2 - if they are not doing it for themselves, forget about it!
Hypnosis is like a contract. We both sign the agreement. You need to be knowledgeable and skilled to get the suggestions in. If someone is doing something for any other reason than to help themselves, don't take them as a client. First question I ask on the phone: Is this something you really, really want to do or is it something someone told you to do. If it is not what they really, really want to do, I will not book them. They can come to me when they are ready to make the change.
The subconscous mind can delete any suggestion you make if it doesn't like it or if it were not worded correctly. This is one reason metaphors work well, it gets slipped in. Read Dr. Erickson's work and you will find the answers to your questions.
Thanks poodle, any good books or articles you can recommend by Dr. Erickson? I've heard so much about him but I can't seem to find where they offer training in Ericksonian hypnosis.

You obviously have a pc. You can find books about Ericksonian hypnosis on amazon.com. You can go through the archives on the forum about Erickson books and papers. You can do a search on hypnosis trainings and check to see if they include Ericksonian hypnosis. Don't ask it like: Do you include Ericksonian hypnosis training. Ask to speak to one of the instructors and then ask what s/he thinks of Ericksonian hypnosis. That way you will be assured they know what they are talking about and that it is taught. I don't understand how one could go to hypnosis training and not find Erickson. He is only the Father of Modern Hypnosis.
