Im new to this board as well as hypnosis. I have a few books and have read them. What is a good way for me to practice so I will become better. I am looking for classes in the area, but most aren't available for a while. Thanks in advance. Good question, I too am getting antsy to start. I am looking for a program of training in medicine. I would like to be a surgeon, so I am getting a head start by reading books, and am wondering who might like free surgery while I get practise and await me turn at Uni.... After all, at seventy seven, I only have a few years, and want to live my dream NOW. I am already qualified in anasthesia, so will have no need for one of those to aid me, and will do my best work on the kitchen table, just as in the old days, so some of you might find it fun and wish to participate...

WE are really good at anesthesia but if I practice it in a hospital, there goes my insurance. Sorta takes all the fun out of knowing it don't cha think? I would say if this person wants to practice and we have no idea of practicing what, try it in front of a mirror. The most you can screw up is yourself and you probably deserve it for practicing on yourself. "There are no schools near me". That doesn't wash. There are roads and there are airplanes. Find one! Do you really expect to find quality training close by? People travel from foreign countries and we go to foreign countries to teach and you can't be bothered to find a training. Guess you really don't want it very badly.

Rootsy,

This is problematic, as you may have guessed from other responses.

It isnt really fair to 'inflict' yourself in the unsuspecting public without 'proper' training. However graduates of many schools of hypnosis do just that because the schools dont properly train. There isnt a lot of hands on experience to be had in many trainings.

That said, it beggs the question, "How do you get experience when experience is required to be allowed get it?"

So I recognize the catch 22.

Mr recommendations in decending order of preference:

I would recommend high level training. Maybe not the easiest, but a training that requires book knoweledge and hours of hands on experience under supervision. I dont care about how convenient or not it is , this is the best way.

Or I would try and get a local hypnotist to mentor you. Yes I realize they might view you as future competition and refuse to help, but not everyone is like that and persisance is bound to pay off.

Both of these avenues give you training, experience with clients under supervision.

Short of that. it goes downhill pretty fast.

Find and or form a Hypnosis interest group, that meets once a week or so, and you will attract a variety of interested willing 'victims' and likely some people who have some level of expertise they re willing to share.

Get a partner who wants to learn as well, and practice with them.

Practice self 'abuse'.

cheers,

Find a hypnotist to mentor you. There is another lady here in town who "tries to practice". She just went for training for hypnobirthing and something else. I sent her an email - why didn't you just ask me -- I would have taught you for free! We really need MORE highly trained hypnotists, not less.

I strongly agree with your comment about a goodly number of the trainings are lacking. I know people that have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars and don't know much at all. It's sad to me to see how they were "fleeced".
