Whenever I have been hypnotised I have noticed that during the induction - which has always been of the progressive relaxation type - I start to experience a tingling sensation in my forehead. Sometimes i feel a similar sensation around my temples.
It certainly doesn't bother me at all, but I am curious as to what is going on, physiologically. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks.

Okay, your forehead tingles? How do YOU KNOW trance WAS induced? Everyone experiences trance differently and there are many levels of trance.

Thanks for your reply.
I don't know for sure that trance was induced as I don't know how I'm *supposed* to feel during trance. This tingling coincided with a slight feeling of drowsiness and disconnection which occurred during the induction. Perhaps it wasn't trance?
(Incidentally, I've had the same experience when using brainwave entrainment software at the lower alpha frequencies)
Also, I only need to remember the experience for the tingling to return, although at this time I don't feel anything other than fully alert.

Probably a symptom of the relaxation.

Trapper, you underestimate yourself. We have no idea what you are talking about, because there is nobody quite like you, and nobody will nescessarily react like you to similar conditions. We have no idea what you mean by being hypnotised, because we don't know that you have been. In other words, your question is too personal and too short of information to be replied to with an sense that we know the problem, or if there is a problem. You waste both your time and ours because you see yourself as a machine with predictable actions, when in fact you are unique....

It's possible that you were on the verge of having an Out of Body Experience. You said you were extremely relaxed and you felt disconnected. These are two key elements in having an OBE. Just a thought.

Hello
I am also experiencing a similar or same feeling during my self hypnosis sessions. It has happened to me every single time i have tried self hypnosis. I will try to give some details of a usual self hypnosis session of mine hoping that it will be more helpful to elaborate some ideas about what this could be caused by:
1) I start my session by waiting for my brain to get rid of any thoughts
2) control and regulate my breathing (takes like 20 mins)
3) imagine myself at top of a baywatch tower with 10 stairs on the coast of our summer house that we used to visit when i was a child.
4) start walkin down the stairs very slowly while telling myself that i am going deeeper within myself with every stair
5) when i reach the ground i start experiencing the feeling of the wind, hotness of the sand, ocean smell and the sound of the waves.
usually i start feeling a pressure like someone's finger pressing gently on my forehead at this stage. i continue my session as the feeling gets more noticible. the feeling doesnt go away and stays with me like another hour or so depending on how long my session takes.
this kinda bothers me coz i am a person that wants to know the reason behind everything as long as i am egligible to do so. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Heacuva, if I spent so much time and effort just to do self-hypnosis, I'd have tingling forehead and a pain in the neck...as well as a pain somewhat lower, too.
I would suggest that you take a course, in person, on how to do self-hypnosis. Or find a hypnotist in your area and have him or her teach you to do it. This should take one class and you'll be able to do self-hypnosis quickly--a few minutes rather than a half-hour or more as you've been doing currently. There's no time to get "those feelings."
As a professional hypnotist, I would have enough time in the day to treat clients if I were spending so much time just to lead a person into a deep hypnotic state. I'd be out of business!

I agree with Don.
The people I train get self hypnosis in a few seconds.
