I read about studies performed in the 70's where two hypnotherapists were exploring the hypnotic state. They entered trance together and explored the state without any sort of suggestion, but just to explore. They ended up creating vivid dream-like worlds within which they could wander and fly through, like a lucid dream.

I have also read a study from the 60's where an individual who had taken LSD before was hypnotically suggested to experience the LSD state. Her pupils dilated, she began hallucinating and showing all signs of being intoxicated by the substance again.

A study in the 1990's had individuals who had previously used MDMA go through post-hypnotic suggestion to experience being on the ecstasy again, and reported feeling the effects for the next several hours.

I am curious about the notion of psychonautic exploration via hypnosis. It's not a topic I see around other than such obscure studies. Perhaps it's not seen as worthwhile to explore the mind or possibilities without trying to help someone stop smoking or something like that, but it seems incredible to me.

Can anyone give me more information on the use of hypnosis for psychonautic purposes? If I were to learn self-hypnosis, would I be able to explore the inner realms of my mind in similar fashion?

Thanks for your thoughts.

"If I were to learn self-hypnosis, would I be able to explore the inner realms of my mind in similar fashion?"

Yes.

Suggested reading:

Robert Anton Wilson
Ingo Swann
Lucid Dreaming
Reality Tunnels

That would give you a start.

years ago we were allowed to give the drug of choice hypnotically and receive insurance payments from the client to eventually get the client off of the drug. Now, that is not to say that the client could not re-create the drug of choice hypnotically at correct times and without the nasty side-effects. We don't get the insurance companies money now days. I have done it with some of my clients and it works very well. The mind has already learned what 'xyz' does so one does not need to swallow, inject, smoke or in any other manner take 'xyz'. It also works exactly the same with alcohol as the drug of choice.

Since you are looking in "hypnosis" even tho hypnosis is used, you are "in the wrong pew." It's NLP. Something is saying to me: Insider's Guide to Submodalities -- towards the very end. I have no idea where my copy of that little book is.

A couple of years ago we had a member that wanted to be a drug counselor. He grabbed that idea and RAN WITH IT. How wonderful when someone finds the answer to a life quest on this place. And even more wonderful are the people he is quickly helping. :)
