An article in the Telegraph claims that it does.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/6232801/Subliminal-advertising-really-does-work-claim-scientists.html
However, I can quickly see several flaws in the article:
1) The study on which the article is based has nothing to do with advertising and does not support the title.
2) It says that negative subliminals have more impact, so how do you negatively advertise a product?
3) The study on which the article is based used subliminals of one word. How do you advertise using just one word? You can name a product, but that may or may not have a negative impact on the viewer and thus the effectiveness is unknown.
4) Subjects viewing the words may have had negative associations with the words the testers considered positive or neutral, and positive associations with the words the testers considered negative or neutral. Without doing a test to see what the subjects' presuppositions are, the interpretation of words as positive, negative, or neutral is meaningless.
Do you agree with the article? Do you have other problems with the testing?
