Hello all,
I've been looking around the web for hypnosis forums and this seems to be the best around, Ive had a look around and viewed merlins FAQ but couldnt find answers to the questions i have.

Im a 23 year old guy from the UK. I've been having problems with anxiety and depression since the age of 16 but most likely had simular symptoms before that age. So far I have tried psychodynamic therapy for 4 years and have recently finished a CBT course to try to alleviate the symptoms and create a different mindset.

Both have been helpful for building general life skills. CBT especially has been very helpful in learning skills such as recognising and challenging negative thoughts, skills to stay in the present moment, relaxation skills etc. however the intial problems still remain( argh!)

I recognise this isnt the place to go deeply into my personal problems but briefly the roots lie in a high achieving family and being educated at high achieving schools combined with my sensativity and dyslexia(although i have suspicians that this was also anxiety based) resulting in negative beliefs/ thoughts that ive become aware of such as ' Im not good enough' ' If i dont do well im worthless' ' i can only relax after ive finished everything' ' I cant let people see me do badly' these manifest themselves as extreme anxiety at work/Uni/doing difficult tasks etc. and end up seriously effecting my social life and making me depressed.

Firstly I was wondering if I could be given some suggestions of some quality hypnotherapists in the UK( anywhere around London but would also travel further) Ive had a lot of difficulty and some bad experiances finding adequet therapy before so would really appreciate advice.

Secondly and perhaps more difficult to answer is do you think hypnotherapy is the right route for me to go down? I have read a little about NLP but am still in the early learning stages of these 2 practises.

As mentioned before I am aiming to change stubborn beliefs i picked up in my childhood that produce anxiety/depression in pressure situations ususally when there is a risk of failure. Roughly how many sessions do you think is realistic to begin to change these stubbern beliefs?

Thanks for your time, sorry if i waffled a bit!
I appreciate any feedback,

Ben

You say you have been looking around on the net. This really is a great Forum. We will all agree with you on that.

There is another forum based out of London that would probably do you more good because of its location. Any recommendations on our parts are strictly personal opinions and do not represent this Forum at all. I know some of the people that post on that Forum are beyond excellent just like our UK members are here. If I were in London and needed help, I would go to ours. I've known them for a number of years and trust each one of them with my life. The other forum also covers NLP and hypnosis. We only have a few members from the UK here -- Merlin who lives at Camelot and Jack who is no where near London. Mr. Digital holds trainings in London and I'm not really sure where he does live other than in England.

Hopefully from the above you will be able to find someone to help you. In the meantime, I invite you to read Merlin's FAQ. Merlin has also covered some of "how many sessions should it take".

You ask about NLP. It is a bit like hypnosis but it's faster, better and permanent besides being a lot of fun. Around here we call it "hypnosis on steroids". Mostly 'anxiety' (a medical diagnosis) comes from too much advance planning and your writing looks to me like you seem to like to do advance planning. I wonder what would happen if you just decided to stop and let life just be as it is. You also seem to write about being a bit anal so I would suggest putting your nose back where it belongs. The world smells much better up there. Trust me on that one. Andy Austin who lives in one of the Sussex's was looking for people with depression. If you would not mind being part of a project and filmed for future study there is no payment either way. It's NLP.

I do not know if you would need a written referral from your medical provider for hypnosis. I know you would in the USA but I don't know about England. Something to check out, huh? I'm pretty darn sure you do not for NLP.

Good luck to you!

Be well~Pood
