I have been seeing a hypnotherapist who is absolutely wonderful. I've really enjoyed our sessions and feel incredibly relaxed when I leave. I'm seeing her for anxiety, especially around driving on highways. I've had 3 sessions of 1.5-2 hours each. We do some talk therapy first and then the hypnosis.
How long before I see significant results? I've asked my hypnotherapist this question and her response, as expected, is that everyone is different and responds uniquely. I absolutely understand and respect that I was just wondering what timeline those of you with experience might expect...
Needless to say I'm ready to be healed...in my mind I think I am but when I get on a highway my feelings tell me differently.

I Can't answer your question directly because I don't know all the ins and outs of your particular situation. Quite often, when a client comes in wanting to change some behavior, the real issue is much deeper. The change they wanted and that brought them in is what we call a "presenting problem" and there is more to do. So it's quite possible that you anxiety is only on the surface and your hypnotherapist is dealing with deeper issues first. I don't know.

However, I can say that if a client comes to me with an anxiety such as highway driving, I would either
A) want to see obvious changes within three sessions
B) If not A, I'd want to approach the client about other issues that are more important to the client, or
C) If not A or B, I'd refer to another hypnotherapist.

However, that's just me. I could be appropriately different with your hypnotherapist. Further, this is a very general statement. Individual issues may create different options.

So what I would suggest is talking with your hypnotherapist and asking when she thinks you will start seeing a change. After working with you for this long, she should have some idea of what's going on.

in that poster writes "we do some talk therapy first and then hypnosis". This leads me to believe that hypnotherapy is not the "tool of choice" for this person. Would I be wrong if I guessed this person is a psychologist that uses 'some' hypnosis? So, what are you paying for -- hypnotherapy or talk therapy? What are the credentials of this person you are currently seeing? How much hypnosis has this person studied and still studies?

Generally speaking for your type of problem I would prefer to use NLP. Faster! Quicker! Better!

You may wish to read Merlin's FAQ as she definitely puts out how many sessions something should take. Relaxation has nothing at all to do with hypnosis but can be a lovely by-product of it.

Wishing you well~Pood

Hi, Sunny! (Reminds me of a song...sunny one so true...)

You're asking us questions that are better answered by the person you're working with. If you don't trust that person enough to ask your questions, or you have doubts as to that person's abilities or efficacy, that's a red flag. You can always find someone else to work with. Not all therapists or THERAPIES are created equal. Hypnotherapy and NLP are far superior to other therapies (my personal opinion). As Poodle says: Faster! Better! More Powerful!

That's right!

So, if you feel you're not getting forward motion, and if you're not happy with the answer (after you ask the right person the question)--then move on. Find a Licensed Practitioner or Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming. For a change. That's permanent and fast. It's not about "talk," it's about action and change now.

Client like you comes in and says: I'm afraid of driving OVER the bridge.
We respond: So am I. Have you ever thought about driving ACROSS the bridge?
Client: Ohhhhhhh!
We request fee of $1800.
Client says: For that?
We say: YES! It worked didn't it?

It CAN BE THAT EASY!

Hi All

What would you say is a reasonable fee for a session say in Los Angeles?

I do understand that this will vary between hypnotherapists.

Thank you

jacko

Call 3 hypnotists in your area and ask their fees. Generally, I would expect between $90 and $300+. First sessions may be more. Generally you get what you pay for...but not always.
