I have been interested in hypnotism for a while now, but after watching "Rajan and his evil hypnotists" last night I have become very interested in how it works. Not because I enjoyed laughing at the victims of his hypnotism, or that I would even think about trying it on other people but the actual thought of doing it has always left me amazed.
I would like to learn the basics of hypnotism, how to actually get a person within a trance. Not to use, just strictly so that I know how it all actually works.

I live in Wales, Uk. I haven't seen any classes nearby so I'm not sure how to get started on this? Do I need to purchase tutorial videos? Are there any that you guys would recommend? Are there any tips that you can help me with over this message board?

Any positive replies would be much appreciated.

Rajan reawakened my interest in all things hypno too (try Street Hypnosis on FTN as well for more stage hypnosis titillation.

I found that reading through this site is very informational and you could also try hypnosisdownloads.com who offer a free hypnotism course by mp3. Although its a very basic course it offers some insight into hypnotism, although no scientific stuff.

As a practitioner of NLP and Hypnosis, i got interested in it because a friend of went on a course, he is now a trainer, i was very sceptical of it all untill i expierienced it first hand.
It is very supprising how easy it is to get sombody in to a trance state, there are so many inductions to put someone in to trance, as you say you don't want to use it just to know how it works, in the wrong hands it can be very dangerous.

I think it was the program mentioned "Street Hypnosis" where he got a subject to think he was a bee and to sting sombody very funny,,,but what happens to a bee when it has stung?......It dies.... so imagine the mental turmoil that that subject went through believing that he was going to die it must have been awful. So, simple things like that can have a dramatic effect on people.

Anyway, hypnosis works by tapping in to the unconcious mind, but it's not as simple as that you need to have Tonality in your voice so specific words stand out, you do every day but you are not concious of it. Look for the ELMAN INDUCTION,

If you want to know, i would recommend going on a course, i went to stoke for mine and i live on the wirral,so you may have to travel, if you can find a good NLP course i would recommend going on it, it will change the way you look at yourself and others, for me it was a life changing expierience.

Its a really interesting subject you're discussing. I myself have given it some thought and at the same time have read others thoughts about it.

First of all I think weird feats with hypnotism could be done and they have been done. There may be many fake stagings out there but there is no way to discredit 100% of these. Unfortunately I don't have much input per se, I remember a Latin show they film in Miami with this 60 year old host Don Francisco, some of you might know him... he put on a hypnotist one time and this guy had a group of women go into trance and hallucinate that they would see Ricky Martin when they woke up or something like that. Well, oddly enough, all of them responded this way and jumped the guy pretty viciously. It was kinda believable although the staging itself would've been anyways unless one of these ladies flat out stopped in the middle of the stage, laughed her ass off, and said "I can't go on with this."

You see, hypnosis works on many levels but one thing that is present at any level is the reading of people's behavior and the manipulation of it. It really is very explicit, up to the point that no other communications theory that I have read delves so deep into what it really means to communicate/think. Hmmm, so I sort of feel the viewer was somewhat hypnotized there into just stopping their worldview for a moment, long enough to let the illusion take place. Hey, this is exactly what is done everyday in clinical hypnosis, just that people believe it and act upon it.

So this leads me to the other side of the coin. In the past century there have been some hypnotists who have made it their task to discredit the bad uses of hypnosis, the bogus uses, for the purpose of bringing in some credibility back into the field. And it really was some much needed credibility because otherwise clinical hypnosis really stood not much of a chance of being believed. And there has really been some good work done in the field, so much so that other therapies got pushed back thanks to it.

I would really like to see some of these shows in the uk about hypnosis, if there are so many of them they must be good, some of them at least. I am interested in the Deren Brown show, I just read his site an article about an episode called "The Heist" where someone is hypnotized into robbing a bank (for the love of god), talk about really weird and complex stuff, but hey it could be done. The hypnotist would just have to have a little feel for these kinds of things. Many hypnotists have a connection with human problems that's why they go into clinical hypnosis, others might just flat out be wild innovative rebel thinkers and could very well shape the hypnosis field in that direction. So it could be done, but of course some universals would need to still apply, like getting a really good subject for the kind of session that will be done.

I don't know, I would love to think that it is true still, it would really show that uhm, this stuff is hella more powerful than we even need to believe.

when people ask me "what is nlp" i have to think.....what is it..
the only way i can describe it is that its a set of instructions for your brain.

i mean,,,, you buy a video recorder and you use it for years without ever reading the instructions and you think you know everything there is to know about it,, then one day you sit and read the instructions and you realise that it can do things that you never knew about,

This is what nlp is to me ,, i thought i knew my brain and how i think, but then i get given these instructions and WOW i didn't know i did that or i could do this. as i said before it was a life changing expereience for me, i still remain sceptical about some things and i think that this is good because it keeps me keen to use it and prove myself wrong.

I remember a friend of mine cut his finger quite badly it was pouring with blood,, i will never forget it,, he just said "thats not right" and 3 seconds later it stopped, i mean stopping a headache is one thing but bleeding is another thing compleately. i asked him how he did it and he just said "i stitched it up" i aske dhime what he meant and he just said in my minds eye i took a needle and stitched it up. ifi hadn't had seen it i would not have believed it.

MY partner is due to give birth soon and she wants to give birth naturally, because last time she was so full of drugs and pain killers that she was out of it and can barely remember a thing, so this time i am using hypnosis and Nlp so hopefully she can have a drug free birth, ans speed up the healing process. we have already started the theropy with the help of a good friend of mine who is a Trainer, if i can keep her relaxed amd mentally aware throughout it then i am doing well, this is a big test for me, so fingers crossed.

With all these things mentioned NLP and Hypnosis is more powerfull than i could ever imagine

I too started with the downloads mentioned above and also bought their mini-course and could not figure out why they did not work for me; however, it gave me a clue as to some really, really great wordings. Interest just grew and grew until I located what was the perfect training for me but that was just getting the nose wet with 2-1/2 times more hours than the National Guild requires. YES, I had to travel a long distance and spend a lot of money but was it worth it?? You bet it was. Greatest thing to ever happen in my lifetime. Hypnosis, Time Line Therapy and NLP totally turned my life around for the better. There is soooo much to learn after that as no two people on earth are the same. Maybe that's why I love it so as one can never know enough about it.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night! Pood
